Fair enough 🙂 I take my polls from lists that have been voted on by thousands of people. But for sure those names belong on the list too 🙂

Van Halen mastered the guiat and the tapping till his fingers bled but Jimmi had the soul.

This is the one problem with polls. There are so many great artists out there one can never capture them all.
Johnny Winter, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads. Frank Marino, John Sykes. We could go all day here lol

Oh absolutely ! 🙂 But the thing is if you and others comment other guitarists then others who dont know these great ones look them up , find new music 🙂 we are all winners 🙂

Yes he does. He’s definitely cleared his own path and isn’t resting on the family name.

Eddie gets extra points for making his own guitar, as does Brian May (who is not on this list), I think. Both are amazing performers to complement their band members, and I have essentially memorized most of their notes.

Then there are virtuoso performers such as Vai, Satriani etc, Govan’s improvisational ability is insane. However, I find myself reaching for my copy of ‘1984’ for more often than ‘Passion and Warfare’.

The grandiose angst and mournfulness in Bohemian Rhapsody. The playful in The Invisible Man. The pure joyfulness of Breakthru, at a time when the band needed a break, atop the Miracle Express, no less. The sad, but defiant clean solo in These Are The Days. Brian’s playing was about emotion.

It’s true some of the best guitarists managed to evoke emotion from nothing but the guitar , brian is one of those. As is slash , november rain gets me every time!

I heard somewhere, and I forget where, but this person was saying that the beauty of Brian May’s playing is that his riffs and melodies are created with the mind of a Singer rather than A Guitarist. Which I think hits the nail right on the head.

Sorry.. I meant because he is a Singer himself.. Even prior to Freddie’s arrival, Brian was playing these riffs almost like they were transcriptions of a vocal melody.
But yeah… Definitely agree that he, and the rest of Queen were compliments to one another ❤️

In my opinion, Hendrix has to be number one because of the influence he had on some other the later great guitarists, although it was hard not to vote for Eddie.

A tough choice for you and us. I choose Beck although it was a toss up on the whole list. Duane Allman would be my personal choice had he been on this list. Love these polls!

While I don’t dispute this list, 5 others came to mind immediately (yes, I’m showing my age 🙂 )–Mick Ronson, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler, Adrian Belew. Polls can be really difficult! It’s like asking one to vote for a favorite child…

I’ll admit Jimi Hendrix was influential to modern rock but Chuck Berry pioneered rock ‘n’ roll. Shame how nobody voted for him! But I also have lots of love for Jimmy Page’s style.

One of the THE most overlooked guitarists in Rock IMHO, overlooked due to him being the Lead Singer too, is James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers.
