This time I’m covering Fall Out Boy’s – This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race.
How has it shaped me?
It reignited a love for rock when I was younger after many years of drifting away from the scene due to quite frankly some terrible bands around that time period. It also gets me ready to put on my war paint for whatever might be coming my way personally.
When did I first hear it ?
I believe I was sat in Games Workshop (Made famous by the Warhammer franchise) and I think I’d have been around 14 at the time. Painting my models when this absolute tune of a song came on the radio. I recall immediately walking out of the shop to go and buy the CD.
When is the perfect time to listen to it?
It’s a defiant song , ill get more into that later on. But when ive got something im dealing with in life and I want to push on through it this song (and quite frankly the entire album) is a great way to sort my headspace. Also it’s a great song to play on public transport , or at least that’s what I have found.
Additional Notes
The song is about the over-saturation at the time of pop-punk bands that popped up around that time. Its about the record companies using alternative culture and using it as a weapon to knock down the people either in the scene or those interested in it. It has a very similar vibe to teenagers by My Chemical Romance (another fantastic song). Having just seen them Headline Download Festival , my 2nd time of seeing them live I can safely say this band still does it for me. I don’t think I stopped singing the entire time!
