This is the latest installment in the songs that shaped me series on Fox Reviews Rock. This time I am going to be covering my perfect breakup song Three Days Grace – I Hate Everything About you. You can listen to it in the Youtube video below.
How has it shaped me?
It’s made me much more adept at controlling anger, making better decisions and in general finding peace quicker. These days it has a much different purpose and reason behind the song (see down below for more details) but in general its my anthem.
When did I first hear it ?
It would have been not too long after I finished school. I’m certain I had it on repeat constantly for what might have been an entire summer! Thinking about it I think a friend at the time might have introduced me to the bands music and this song stuck out to me and my current emotions.
When is the perfect time to listen to it?
Whenever you’re annoyed at someone, when you feel rage and you need to find a way to get it out in a safe manner. For me it was anger at getting screwed over by an ex-girlfriend, now its an absolute anthem for when I need to remind myself how far my life has come. It’s also interesting to listen to the song now and remember the other reason I was listening to it. Funny how these things happen isn’t it, but I love how a song can be what you want it to be, does a song bring back painful memories? Well then change the memories! I might also add this song is fantastic for the gym!
Additional Notes
Three days grace are a band from Canada, and their music quite frankly defined my genre in the early 2000’s. I was lucky enough to meet the band and have them sign my poster which has found a new home in my garden office! If you want to go and see live music click the Ticketmaster logo below to buy your tickets!
I feel even more lucky for the fact that just 3 years later Adam Gontier the lead singer left to form his new band Saint Asonia (Also brilliant). I have seen them a few times since then with new singer Matt Walst and they are still great. This song is about a love hate relationship , you hate everything about that person but at the same time you love them. Or at least that’s what it meant to me growing up, I have since learned to know its about addition to drugs , at least that’s something the band members have been able to kick since the song was released!
