Cozzer’s Question 08/07/24

Who do you think is the greatest Lead Guitarist in rock and metal music?

I’ll go first. My favourite lead guitarist is Randy Rhodes. To me his riffs and solos are iconic and so inspirational to me as a guitarist. I only wish we’d been able to see what else he’d have come up with.

There are quite a few great ones, but I agree with you Randy Rhoads must be one of the best.

Randy Rhodes is pretty amazing for sure. All the work he did with Ozzy (and others is tops).

I’d pick either of best friends Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck.

Both achieved acclaimed success helming The Yardbirds. They then became legendary with Jeff Beck’s Groups and solo efforts and of course this little quartet that Jimmy Page founded (The New Yardbirds) aka Led Zeppelin.

Both are/were innovative guitarists with excellent blues foundations and great hard rock instincts. 🎸🔥🎸

You might look up “Pure Hell” and another DC band called “Beefeater”. Oh, and there’s the “Junkyard Band”

Pete Townsend, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck , Jimi Hendrix, and on the blues/rock side, Keith Richards… I don’t think he gets enough credit.

Jimi Hendrix for me, Frank Zappa especially on whipping post. At the moment I’m really liking Robben Ford.

It’s really difficult to go for just one guitarist. Hendrix, Clapton and Beck are candidates, of course. But I’d like to mention a less well-known musician, Terry Kath, who also died young. Hendrix greatly admired Kath’s talent.
