Interview
Who is in IDestroy?
“Hi, we are Bec, Nic, and Jenn, and together we’re IDestroy.”
Where did the name IDestroy come from? Do you think it fits the music well?
“One of the first songs I ever wrote for the band was called ‘IDestroy’, so the band was named after the song.”
“I wrote ‘IDestroy’ during a chaotic time in my life. I threw my phone off a bridge into a river (don’t ask) and that’s how the song began.”
“I think the name fits the band well, our live shows are pretty chaotic and destructive!”
We saw you live at Download 2024, what was that like? (ps we saw your whole set and you rock!)
“Download was so much fun! It’s a festival we have wanted to play for a long time, and having the opportunity to come along was the best feeling!”
“We were lucky enough to play two sets, one on the VIP Courtyard stage and a second last-minute set on the Dogtooth stage. It was also great to catch so many other amazing bands’ sets too. We came home feeling very inspired.”
Could you explain the message behind your song “Headphones”? We think it’s one that people need to know, pay attention to, and understand!
“Thank you! We recently played this at 2000 Trees, and the entire crowd sang the outro chorus with us. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so happy and proud of something! The song was released on International Women’s Day back in March.”
“It’s a song about women’s safety and how crazy it is that we are not safe to walk home alone at night time. I think every woman unfortunately can relate to the feeling of having to take headphones out to stay alert or holding keys between fingers for protection, or texting a loved one to let them know they made it home okay.”
“Far too often we see on the news another terrible thing has happened to a woman who just wanted to walk home. It’s a call for change and an expression of how damn sad and helpless I feel about it sometimes.”
You just mentioned 2000 Trees, how would you say that experience is different to previous festivals?
“2000 Trees was another great festival! The crowd was incredible, with so much energy in that tent. Circle pits and people singing the words to our songs made us so happy. We’d love to come back and play Trees next year.”
Do people expect you to be an all-female band? We read that previously you have been mistaken for fans. Please tell us this is no longer happening?!
“Luckily, that hasn’t happened in a while! Previously, we’ve had situations where we’ve been mistaken for bar staff, the girlfriends of the band, merchandise sellers, and the list goes on! It’s frustrating when it happens.”
Your debut album “We Are Girls” came out in 2021. Are there any plans for a follow-up, and if so, when can fans expect it?
“We have recently announced our new album, which is self-titled and comes out on August 30th. You can pre-order it from our online store: https://IDestroy.Bigcartel.com. The vinyl is white and looks so pretty! We also have very cool space cat T-shirts.”
Quick Note – Fox Reviews Rock has pre-ordered the album and MASSIVELY recommends that you do too!
There is punk, and then there is punk! Is your sound an expression/sounding board of the band’s collective experiences?
“Our songs are mostly based on our experiences, and sometimes they touch on things that have made us angry! I’d say we’re more of a happy punk band, though!”
“We love performing live, and nothing makes us happier than that! I like to channel any negative experiences into creativity and songs. That’s not to say all of our songs are angry or full of negative experiences.”
You are part of other bands. How is IDestroy different from those?
“I write and play guitar for another band called The Blue Aeroplanes. They formed way back before I was even born! And I joined a while ago now; I think I was the 50th guitarist the band has had! I’ve learned so much from being in The Blue Aeroplanes. My late friend Angelo Bruschini gave me so much confidence as a guitarist; I’d just watch him play and be in absolute awe.”
“IDestroy is completely different; there are only three of us to start, and The Blue Aeroplanes always have an entire stage full of musicians (and a dancer!). However, IDestroy has taken influence from the chaos and rock ‘n’ roll of the ‘Aeroplanes gigs.”

We heard you really like cats, what do you love about them?
“We love cats! I have two rescue kitties, named Neptune and Luna. I’ve written a song about them on our upcoming album!”
What musicians growing up did you look up to most?
“We’ve all got huge, massive, long lists! Mine probably changes every year as well, to be honest.”
“When I started to learn guitar, obviously the ‘guitar heroes’ were my idols: Hendrix, Slash, Syn Gates, Eddie Van Halen, etc. But as I started to develop as a songwriter, I really started to love bands like Nirvana, Gossip, Sleater Kinney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Green Day, to name a few!”
“Honestly, though, I could talk all day about artists who have inspired me throughout the years in many different genres (and I’ve not even got started on how much I loved Busted…)”
You have played shows across Europe and Asia, which countries have the best atmosphere?
“We’ve loved every country we’ve played in! South Korea was insane. It was a good feeling knowing we’d taken our little band halfway across the planet! Germany also feels like our second home. We toured there so much when we first formed. We’re really overdue for a tour there.”
What’s the mission statement with IDestroy?
“The mission has always been to perform for as many people as possible in loads of different places!”
If you could describe IDestroy with 3 words, what would they be?
“On stage: Energetic, Chaotic and fun”
“Off stage: Sleepy and restless”
When on tour what do you do that make yourselves feel at home?
“I just look at photos of my cats hahah my phone is full of photos and videos of them. I especially do this on planes because I really don’t flying and it’s a good distraction.”
What’s the wildest thing you have seen at a festival?
“We’ve just played a festival in Finland called Ilosaarirock Festival. They had a massive crane and people were bungie jumping from the top. Nic wanted to have a go but we sadly ran out of time!”
