Aurateque deliver big punk filled alternative metal hits! From Australia they are sharing their infectious energy with their locals for now… With elements of hardcore and math rock these really do like to blend genres and to great effect!
Having sold out shows already in Gomeroi, Tamworth and Melbourne it shows the support the band have already amassed. Not to mention support gigs for Patient Sixty-Seven and GhostSeeker.
We can’t wait till they tour the UK. (More on that later.) Till then, take a look at our exclusive interview with the band. Give their tunes a listen!

Interview
Is there any plans on coming to the UK for shows/tour in the not so distant future?
Aurateque – Traveling abroad to share our music with the world is something we’ve always dreamed of. While we’ve got nothing planned because we’re still trying to build ourselves up in our own country.
Plans to play in the UK and other places globally is definitely on the cards in the future- just not sure when!
What sort of process did the band go through when deciding sound and image?
Aurateque – It all actually happened during lockdown. We decided to sit down and really think about what we wanted to do with the band. We genuinely didn’t know what we were doing but the more we release, the more we write and the more we figure out ourselves both personally and musically, we edge closer to the most authentic version of Aurateque.

We believe that music is one of the greatest tools to heal. How has music helped you in your life ?
Aurateque – Music has always been a safe space for all of us. It keeps us sane and give life so much cooler and depth. For me personally (Lauren) it saved me from drug abuse and self harming as it had served as an outlet firstly, then subsequently gave me a real reason to live and treat my mind, body and soul with the love and respect it needed to pursue music and develop the vocal skills I wanted.
Which one of your songs embodies all things Aurateque and why ?
Aurateque – Each song on The Dragonfly Pursuit is a slice of inspiration. Each song is slightly different because it’s exactly that – a slice out of our very eclectic list of inspiration. Our new music is much more chaotic, and you should be expecting heavier, mathier tunes in the near future.
How did you come up with the name Aurateque?
Aurateque – We’re heavily inspired by a band called Marmozets. They specifically have a song called “Vibetech” so, it’s a little spin on that word.
Which bands in your homeland of Australia inspired you the most?
Aurateque – So many. The local music scene is riddled with some crazy talent. Northlane, Polaris, Redhook, The Beautiful Monument, Reliqa.
So far you have released singles and the EP “The Dragonfly Pursuit ” When can fans expect an album , is there one in the works?
Aurateque – Definitely not an album for a while. We’re still in the process of finding ourselves as artists. Our next release is in the works, and we’re honing in on the chaos a little more with this one, we’re very excited.
If you could pick another bands album and its now an Aurateque record , which album are you picking and why?
Aurateque – Ah man, between The Weird and Wonderful by Marmozets or My Ticket Homes “Strangers Only” these albums shaped the way we see music and the way we write. These are perfect 10s for us!
What are the bands goals for the future?
Aurateque – Just to keep releasing tunes, keep writing music we love and see where it takes us. Obviously, we’ve got a business plan, but at the end of the day, you can only outline what to do – what happens from there is out of our control.
I think it will heavily depend on how mentally equipped Lauren will be to actually do social media haha – it’s one of the most important things as a musician right now. So, that’s a pretty solid goal – actually do social media properly. That will be the real launchpad for doing anything substantial with our music careers – which is f*cking stupid crazy to even say.
What does the bands tour diet look like?
Aurateque – I (Lauren) asked the rest of the band but I lost the messages HAHA, I’m just gonna expose the boys and give you what their tour diet looks like
Luke, he’s a fiend for paddle pops, Red Bull and chicken pesto pasta
Matt, a musashi protein bar and Muscle Chefs Spaghetti Bolognese
Tristan usually has a chocolate bar.. but I can’t recall ever seeing him eat anything on tour lol
MY tour diet consists of matcha, tyrells salt and vinegar potato chips and protein bars. (I like to try different protein bars each city/town
Renegade is your biggest hit on spotify, can you explain the lyrics what does the song mean to you?
Aurateque – This songs lyrics are personal to our singer (Lauren). Coming from an abusive and neglectful home, it’s about realizing that what you are is what hurt you the most. The unravelling of that and the empathy implored with realizing that your abusers are just broken humans who hurt just like you – who have been hurt just like you, is what Renegade is about. “The violence inside us” – a direct reference to the generational trauma passed down, manifesting into anger, hatred and drug abuse.
What comes first in the creative process , lyrics or the outline of the tune.
Aurateque – Generally Matt will come up with an idea and then we interweave the lyrics/vocals and music as we go. It’s very much done in tandem, rather than two separate processes.
If you could play any festival in the world which one would it be and why?
Aurateque – Either Redding and Leads, Pinkpop or Download UK would be dope.

What it like recording a music video? Is it as fun as we imagine it is?
Aurateque – It is so much fun! We’ve had the best time. We’ve record two with Dunelabs and one DIY. We went away for Hurricane and the little cottage in the woods by a river is where we stayed for the night. We spent the rest of the night just talking, hanging out having a few drinks and a few mushies and sitting by the fire in the rain – it was actually pure magic.
The whole process for Hurricane was so good. We all ended up covered in leeches though – that was terrifying. Luckily Jack (Dunelabs) knew how to get them off without tearing skin. Apparently if you tap them before pulling them off, they sew up their little sucking hole and you don’t bleed! So that was a nice educational experience.
The preparation and leading up to it is also just as exciting. We’ve done a lot of DIY stuff which always makes it so interesting and fun! We did DIY stuff for Reneagde which we’ve done a video on!
Genesis was completely DIY with the help of Jack Pallet making the video look a bit more professional. It was actually so much fun just setting up a dodgy film set in the corner of Matts room.
Since the string was being tied to random things I could find, but he end of the video when I was ripping it apart, Matt was BTS holding everything together and making sure the set didn’t completely collapse while I was performing.
