This week we decided to head out to Nottingham as we had no booked gigs this week. We found ourselves at Billy Bootleggers, a dive bar in the lace market area, watching a band called Possum Kid!
Possum Kid are a combination of indie rock and shoegaze with 6 members, Willow (guitar and vocals), Alistair (guitar), Ben (Bass), Ollie (keyboard and vocals), Izzy (violin and vocals), and Jimmy (drummer).
After watching Yellowcard the week before, it was great to see another band with a violinist, and seeing how they used the unique sound in their music. And although their set was a short one, they still put on a mixture of songs to showcase their diverse sound.
After their set we managed to chat with Alistair who told us their setlist and gave us a little insight into the band. The setlist consists of Christmas Trees, Dental Plan, Pylons, Vacant and Twilight.
We were told they took inspiration from a variety of artists such as Alex G, Galaxie 500, Wilco, Destroyer, Pavement, Silver Jews, Nick Cave, Yo La Tengo, Black Country New Road, Car Seat Headrest and Neil Young.

They were the first band of four of the night, but as it was a work night we only stayed out to catch Possum Kid, and we are glad we did. We will definitely be seeing them again, and look forward to a longer set!
We love live music which isn’t just the big artists, finding local venues with hidden gems is always a nice surprise because you never know one of these small bands could make it big in the future! Supporting the small venues encourages creativity whilst also housing a great community of like minded people.
With no recorded songs as of yet on Spotify, you can listen to some solo demos on the link below 👇. We’ve been told they are recording songs next year which will be available on Spotify.
