Review: Solence’s Uplifting Anthem ‘F**k the Bad Vibes’

Feeling down after a rough day? If you’re looking to shake off some negativity, this song is just what you need! Bursting with energy and a spirit of defiance, “F**k the bad vibes” is an uplifting anthem that will help you kick those bad feelings to the curb, even if it does sprinkle in a few choice words.

Hailing from Sweden, this band delivers a blend of Electronic Rock, though some might label their sound as electronicore; I personally lean towards the former. Their style completely stands apart from the usual tracks I review. The quartet is: David Vikingsson on drums, Markus Videsäter handling vocals, David Strääf on guitar, and Johan Swärd on the keyboard. Since their inception in 2012, they have produced four studio albums, but this is a standalone single from 2024.

The moment the song kicks off, the clapping energizes you and elevates your spirit. After a few listens, I found myself joining in on the clapping too! I genuinely enjoy the repeated phrase “F**k the bad vibes”; it contributes to that rebellious feel. This is quite different from my usual stance on repetitive lyrics, but in this instance, it rocks.

The opening riff reminds me of “Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple, and I think that’s a good thing, even if others might not catch the similarity. There are probably plenty of songs out there with riffs that sound alike. The track progresses at a quick pace, featuring a blend of vocal styles that includes rap, singing, and the occasional scream. All of which are executed really well.

“If they’re not on your side , you need some good friends that support you in life”.

The drumming is really solid throughout, though at times it is overshadowed by the electronic components. In contrast, the guitar stands out prominently, it ties together the entire track for me. The electronic aspects give the song a unique, almost foreign feel to me, but I must admit, I find them quite enjoyable. While I can’t claim this will become my primary genre of choice, this band has definitely earned a spot on my list of artists to delve into further.

The scream at 2:25 is fantastic, and I wish they had included a bit more of that intensity—what can I say, I enjoy my music on the heavier side! However, I do find myself drifting a bit during the choir-like segment; it’s not really my style. Although it is pretty amusing to hear a choir belting out “F**k”!

This song will get stuck in your mind, and if you’ve had a rough one, there are definitely worse tracks you could play on repeat for an hour. Its lightness and playful nature contributes to its broad appeal, making it accessible to many. Ultimately, I have to say, it’s fantastic!

8/10
