Our final gig and review of the year is Possum Kid, for their first ever headline show, at the Carousel in Nottingham!
The Carousel is a multipurpose community art centre at the bottom of Hockley, we thought this was an interesting location for a gig. Although it was small, it was well suited for the purpose and we would happily return here in the future. There is a seating area outside and a small bar with a good variety of beverages, including teas and coffees. Merchandise was on the left hand side as you walked through the door where Possum Kid were selling t-shirts for £10 (we obviously bought one).

First support of the night was Mr Ray who is a multi instrumentalist, he played many instruments in his set, such as guitar and trumpet amongst others.
We enjoyed his performance as it was something different for us, hearing a trumpet blown through a microphone was definitely an experience. We thought Mr Ray had an interpretive art style especially with his song ‘Surf Everyday’ which loosely reminded us of the Mighty Boosh.
Mr Ray is in a band called Earth Is Doomed who have a live album on Spotify for you to listen too.

Grace & Guy were the second support of the night, they are a duo who met at the Carousel with Grace on lead vocals and Guy on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, although they were still in their first year of playing together Grace’s strong vocals, emotional and raw lyrics, and Guy’s melodic guitar playing, we thought the duo matched well together!
Grace & Guy played a selection of songs for us including ‘Misunderstood’, ‘Never Fade’ and two songs so new that they had only just finished them that week, Grace even had to read the lyrics off her phone. They asked the crowds opinions on the songs and we all cheered.

3rd act of the night was (most of) PICT, thier lead guitarist was away so the band played with the remaining 3 members.
PICT played a special unplugged show due to this, and did a great job! We especially look forward to seeing and hearing them again with the full band and at thier usual standard.
Although one of the guitar strings broke during their set, the band played it off with humor and continued on with one string down.
We have an interview coming up with PICT so keep an eye out for that in the near future, and let us know if you have anything you’d like us to ask them!

Now time for the headliners, Possum Kid. This was their first hour set which contained 13 songs which consisted of most of their material.
They played a few songs we had heard previously at Billy Bootleggers, as well as lots we hadn’t heard before such as ‘Graceful’, ‘Endless Beach’ and ‘The Circuit’.
With it being a longer set than they’ve played before, they shared some stories about the band and songs, such as how ‘Red Holiday’ was a song Willow wrote and performed with his former band, and how Alistair had wrote a solo the day before for ‘Sacramental Skater’, which we thought fit the song perfectly!
Possom Kid finished thier set with ‘Twilight Haze’ perfectly ending the night with an eclectic mix of sounds, combined well with the lighting.
All the acts of tonight knew each other from either playing together at small venues or through the Carousel, it created such a great close knit community feeling that you don’t often experience, we thoroughly enjoyed our night and are looking forward to seeing all of the acts again in the future!
