Introduction
Coming from Newport in Wales, Percival brings energy with their blend of rock and metal. With melodic structure and excellence on various instruments, I have no doubt they will only continue to grow.
Their goal is to “Bring rock band to Wales, and the rest of the world”. It’s not going to be long before they are performing to audiences around the globe that’s for sure! They have made quite the impression on us here! They won our UK Breakthrough Song at the first Fox Reviews Rock Awards. So they come with some serious pedigree!
Review
This band definitely knows how to kick off a track with a juicy riff! However, I would have loved to hear some drums or bass right from the start to really beef up the sound and add more depth. Fortunately, the drums come in after about 20 seconds, and when they do, they effectively move the song forward. I also think the vocals could have entered a bit sooner, especially considering how impressive they are.
The band recently switched up their lead vocalist, which I believe brings a deeper emotional feel to their music. With an added hint of punk influence that adds a fresh edge to their sound.
It’s reassuring to see that the band’s future looks bright, especially after we recognized their debut single “Love You To Death” as the UK Breakthrough Song of the Year at the Fox Reviews Rock Awards! That track has already amassed over 100,000 streams on Spotify, so it was essential for them to deliver another impressive follow-up.
I think this song surpasses the previous one lyrically, moving away from basic rhyming couplets to embrace a more intricate style. The results are both evident and outstanding!
“The once green grass , now fades to grey”
I admire how the guitar solo-like segments are intricately blended into the main body of the song instead of being a separate entity all the time. It feels like the secret ingredient that enhances an already amazing tasting dish. However, when the guitar takes the spotlight with its solos, it definitely turns up the heat!
With each line of the song that I hear, my appreciation for the lyrics deepens, as they paint vivid images, like…
“It doesn’t feel the same since you took the light away, the morning sky is dark and the leaves are black and left here to decay”
Not long after, the drums have a powerful surge of intensity, picking up the pace and culminating in what feels like the entire band coming together to sing the song’s title. The sense of unity is remarkable. If I could suggest one alteration to the track, it would be to amplify the presence of the bass; there are moments when I struggle to even notice it.
This band, are definitely one to watch, and I can only see their popularity soaring. These boys from Wales are certainly a group to keep on your radar!
