Set The Tone With
The premise behind this post type is to get an insight into the daily lives of the bands that we love! We have given them some situations to attribute a song to and let us know why that song in particular is perfect!
You can check out the answers the band gave below, as well as jam out to the tunes they picked. Want to listen to the complete collection from this segment? Click the Spotify link below!
What is the perfect song for the gym?
Paul (Vocals): Shogun by Trivium is very war and Armageddon, perfect to push myself to the limit. Also the length of the song and the more quiet parts are nice for resting between sets.
What is your go to happy song, when you’re angry or sad?
Nils (Guitar): For me I Appear Missing by QOTSA is one of the most emotion-packed songs ever. There’s so much feeling packed into both the lyrics and the instrumentation, it hits on so many levels. Every time I feel low and listen to it, the song wraps itself around my heart, pulling me into its angry sorrow. When it’s over I feel a little lighter.
The perfect song to put on while cooking?
Richie (Bass): Die Baby Die by Kadavar. I don’t know why, it just happens to run often when I cook. Maybe because of the knife in my hands, who knows.
The wind down song at the end of a long day to get you to sleep?
Francesco (Drums): The way of all flesh by Gojira. It’s a song about the passing of all living and that one has to accept death since it is what makes life life. In the song there is a seven-minute silence which is followed by some ambient noises on the guitar, which represents death (which is at least my interpretation, but I’m pretty sure it’s meant that way). And since I can’t go to sleep without music, I put it on ‘cause it kind of fits the situation and while I’m falling asleep it often happens that it’s right at the beginning of those seven minutes of silence. Just perfect to fall asleep to.
The song by Violet Dawn that you are most proud of?
Nils (Guitar): That’s a tough one… every song has those little moments I personally love playing. But if I had to pick, it’d be Amnesia. It was one of the first tracks I ever wrote and shaped together with the guys. It’s also the song that made me think seriously about stage presence and the whole live vibe. In terms of creativity and self-confidence, Amnesia was a real eye-opener for me, so yeah, I’ve got to stick with that one.
Your all time favourite rock song?
Gabbo (Rhythm Guitar): It’s hard to pick, but for me it is War Pigs by Black Sabbath. It’s one of the songs I can never get bored of, no matter how often I hear it.
The perfect song to set the mood on a date?
Francesco (Drums): Black No 1 by Type 0 Negative is quite the “intense” song and the long version lets the atmosphere build even better, giving “the mood” some time to settle.
A song by an amazing local band we might not know about?
Richie (Bass): I will go with Aether Ride by TIER, who also are from Trier. Just really nice guys and fun to watch on stage. Aether Ride is their best song in my opinion.
The perfect pre show song to amp you up?
Nils (Guitar): Even though, as a five-piece band, space is often limited,on stage i’m always in motion. I’ve realized that getting hyped up and stretching before a gig makes a big difference. It helps me hitting the first note with full energy and then stay locked in from start to finish. My go to track for that is Typhoons by Royal Blood. Absolute booster.
A great song you think Fox Reviews Rock won’t have heard before?
Francesco (Drums): It’s not an unknown band, but the possibility is quite high that you’ve never heard it before. Mother Sky by Twelve Foot Ninja is a really catchy song and it’s a lot of fun to play and practice to.
