New Rock Roundup
Rock
Aerosmith & Yungblud – My Only Angel.
Ok so straight up out of nowhere Yungblud is becoming one of my favourite artists! I really enjoy the combination here between Steven Tyler, and Dom’s vocals. They blend together seamlessly yet have enough difference about them to make a cool effect. The song itself 100% leans further towards Aerosmith in terms of instrumentals. There is signature guitar solos in there and effects. Could Aerosmith be making a come back?!
Metal
From Fall To Spring – Chasing The High.
I have never heard of these guys before, it appears they were a big favourite of Eurovision fans in the preliminary round at some point. I enjoy the industrial electronic sound they weave in the background. There is a real focus on the clean vocals, with the odd touch of aftereffects here and there. I’d actually remove those effects as his voice is so good they don’t need them!
Metalcore
Atreyu – Dead.
This has all the hallmarks of a fantastic Metalcore song! Aggression, thumping riffs and drum. Not to mention those driving harsh vocals. The reward for those not into the harder side of things is this vocalist who honestly I think has one of the best voices in all of rock on the chorus! There is a sense of the occult to me in this song which gives another element.
Punk
Public Opinion – Finale Rack.
Fast paced. Tick. Driving bass. Tick. Not over polished. Tick. Yeah this is ticking all the boxes for me. There is a shift in the vocal styling towards the end of the song which is more towards traditional punk too!
Pop Punk
The Paradox – Leave My Room.
There should be absolutely no surprise that these guys have performed with Green Day and Jack White! They only formed last year in 2024 too! Madness… The song is pure pop punk, with earworm chorus, and a sense of coolness. It all feels pretty polished too.
Alternative
Bad Wolves ft Stand Atlantic – Hanging On To Thunder.
Everytime I hear the singer from Bad Wolves I am instantly reminded of Chris Daughtry. That is no bad thing! He’s got this tone that blends the upper range of melodic into slight operatic. When this is combined with the female vocalist from Stand Atlantic oooh what a blend that is! This made the list purely based of the vocals and I am not ashamed of that.
Indie
The Kilans – Red Couch.
You want indie, I’ll give you indie! That uplifting riff to kick things off just screams it. Vocals it feels in places a little shoegazey which is pretty damn unique I would say. This is pretty silly to say but it reminds me of a more indie version of The Smiths.
