This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.
The Album Breakdown
The album was released in 1968 in the UK and in the USA in 1969. It showcased a return to the bands blues roots after experiments with their genre. It is often described as the bands best album from the early stages of their career. Mainly because of its depth lyrically, the reconnection to blues and the raw sound it produced.
The album also combined gritty rock in places with ballads, all the way over to country style songs in a seamless fashion. As well as being social conscious of the time.
Highlight Tracks
Sympathy For The Devil
There is no doubting this as one of the Rolling Stones most iconic songs! With its samba inspired percussion, lovely piano and Mick Jaggers exceptional storytelling-esque vocals. The sound really shows the bands blues side to perfection!
Street Fighting Man
The song captures the political unrest of the late 60’s with raw aggressive energy. The drumming almost feels military like in nature, especially when compared to the acoustic and electric guitar. The song remains to this day a protest anthem, and shows the bands ability to sing about a serious theme yet maintain the rock appeal too. It is a good song regardless of its meaning.
Other Notable Albums From The Band
