What Is The Best Song By Creedence Clearwater Revival

Fox’s Recommendations

A protest grenade wrapped up into 2 minutes and 20 seconds it attacks privilege with fury. The bass and drums together create this marching feel. While Fogerty’s raspy tones cut through with anger. The best thing about this anti-establishment anthem? You can dance to it!

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Fortunate Son (All Rights Are Retained By Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Another short song, and slightly more on the pop end of the spectrum! It has a cheerful melody which somehow manages to disguise the doom laden lyrics! Imagine the end of the world but sun around a campfire and this is the song.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising (All Rights Are Retained By Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Fox’s Wildcard

This song has always felt like a poem in folk rock form. There is no politics here just pure empathy. Low key, but excellent!

CCR had FIVE #2 hits, inc Lodi, without ever getting to #1!

I’ve always been partial to “Bad Moon Rising”. The lyrics are dark and brooding, while the music is almost in contrast, being upbeat and almost danceable. The two opposites work together so well, along with Fogarty’s voice.

I love CCR! Me and my dad would listen to them at the time. Even my father forced himself to learn the lyrics. Great post!

Oldies but goodies – from my era and still with me. From this list, Bad Moon Rising is top – but Proud Mary is my favourite. 🙂

I’d have to go with Lodi mainly because I’ve been stuck hitch-hiking there back in the day. A friend and I were heading back to L.A. from San Francisco. There’s NOTHING in Lodi except farms and no one was interested in helping two guys with thumbs out. The song has the steady rhythm they’re famous for with the usual great vocals.

“Fortunate Son” holds a special place in my heart. I grew up with news of the Vietnam war plastered all over the TV 24/7. I also attended my first of many peace rallies throughout my life during that unsettled period. I cut my teeth on protest songs and “Fortunate Son” ranks high among them.
