New Rock Roundup Vol 31

This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie! This week is a little different as there are so few new releases across the genre’s its a rock and metal double special. With tracks today and yesterday!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup

Rock – 1

The All-American Rejects – Get This.

One of the more softer side of their work, its rearing on Indie. This would be the perfect long drive song, I like the complete stop right before the chorus. It’s one of those inoffensive songs, it won’t be anyone’s favourite song but for sure fans of AAR will love it.

Rock – 2

Alter Bridge – Playing Aces.

New Alter Bridge, count me in! This has a killer riff to kick things off too, with pounding drums. By the time the vocals from Myles come in I know I am going to love this song. At times the instruments overpower the vocals, but the chorus more than makes up for that even if it is a bit softer than the instrumentation would suggest.

Alter Bridge – Playing Aces (All Rights Are Retained By Alter Bridge)

Rock – 3

Paleface Swiss – Everything Is Fine.

I was under the impression that Paleface Swiss were a lot heavier than this, but I think they might have made a fan out of me! The sombre vocals do it for me. It’s got this deep tone to it, that is till the chorus where it takes on this higher register. It’s a beautiful song too lyrically.

Metal – 1

Megadeth – Let There Be Shred.

So for full disclosure if Megadeth release a new song its getting added to this playlist. I love the high speed drumming, guitar wise it is complex and driving too, with the lead guitar pulling off some impressive skills. Vocally and lyrically its not the most complicated of songs, but it does more than enough to be on this list.

Megadeth – Let There Be Shred (All Rights Are Retained By Megadeth)

Metal – 2

Foxblood – Too Close To The Sun.

They manage to build real tension in the way the guitar is played on this song. The vocals are expansive and while that meant I have to check the lyrics I enjoy this style. The harsher vocals won’t be for everyone but as they are only present for like 20% of the song I suspect that could be looked past. There is this really high noted and bright vocal performance that comes out of nowhere too which I really really like!

Foxblood – Too Close To The Sun (All Rights Are Retained By Foxblood)

Metal – 3

From Ashes To New – Drag Me.

This is giving me Bad Omens vibes, with the electronic elements to hard rock. The lyrics are interesting when performed in an almost rap style too. The chorus is a fantastic vocal performance too. Bravo.

From Ashes To New – Drag Me (All Rights Are Retained By From Ashes To New)
