Interview

You describe your sound as “Any Genre You Like” but what made you form a band that would have songs that spanned so widely over genres? And was this always the intention?

Street Lamp: Sabrina and I are the oldest ones in the band and I grew up in a household that liked country, tejano and 2000s bangers thank god. Playing in different cover bands and touring with a tejano band growing up has shaped the way we go about song writing.

Also, our intentions are to have every song sound different and no 2 songs sounds exactly the same. Have some creative freedom without the pressure to just make one genre of music. We make what we like.

The band name is one of the more out there things I have heard. I am intrigued where did the idea come from?

Street Lamp: Sabrina and I used to travel in cover bands a lot all around Texas and seeing many exits and lamps made us wanna call the band “road ramp street lamp” but we shortened it ofc.

You’re based in San Antonio, Texas. Are there any locals bands that you would love to give some love to and let us know about?

Street Lamp: Menorah the homies, Between Me and the Birds, Cicada, vintage pics, them fools proof of existence, Daycare, and GABO.

If you could travel in time back to when you formed the band, are there any lessons you have learned since that you would tell your younger self?

Nick: Embrace the good AND the bad. Learn from every situation.

Drew: Don’t be scared to try new things, buck up.

Wario: Everything is gonna be okay but this tour shit is expensive. Save your money.

Sabrina: I wouldn’t change anything. Everything that I’ve done and that has happened to me makes me the artist who I am today.

Your EP Guillotine came out earlier this year! What has the reception been like for it?

Street Lamp: We’re really proud of the band dropping this project! It’s cool to get that immediate global attention. We love that it has brought so many people together. We did that music video for sailboat and that boosted up the ep for sure.  We’re definitely on track to keep on delivering.

Sailboat from that EP is my personal favourite especially for that damn catchy intro!!! But I would love to know if the band could take a sailboat out to anywhere in the world , where would you go and why?

Street Lamp: Mario on bass is a wizard. The Bahamas for Nick, super clear waters. Sabrina wanna go to Greenland. Wario going to France to thank everybody for Wemby. Drew said he went on a cruise so he’s good for that.

I am intrigued where did the EP name come from, and was there any other historical methods of killing you thought about first?

Street Lamp: Front naked choke!

When the band puts a single out there, what is the goal? Radio play, streams or a general statement of the bands feelings on the world?

Street Lamp: Just really try to put music out there that we want people to hear and that we ourselves enjoy playing. Main goal is to get it in as many ears and souls and bring em together. Gotta put out something that WE love first, though. Sabrina says “I just wanna be heard.”

I am wondering when fans might be able to get their ears on a full length album?

Street Lamp: We are currently in the studio right now recording Stress, Trauma, and Desire, HOPEFULLY she coming out right before we go on tour in late Jan.

What is one non-musical talent or hobby that each of you have that your fans would be surprised to hear about?

Street Lamp: Sabrina likes to cook and can really well! Mario can ball! Drew’s alright at bowling and Nick got @midscamo_

Which member of the band would survive the longest in a zombie apocalypse and what would their survival plan be? (So we can steal it)

Street Lamp: Nick would survive the longest cause he’s micro preparing since like 2018* the rest of the band would KTS.

Coolio has one hell of a cool vibe about it! Musically it is impossible to pin point as genre wise it is like 4 in one song! So instead, would you mind breaking down the songs inspiration?

Street Lamp: Nick got inspiration for the main chords from Sabrina’s friend Hannah, great jazz guitarist. Mario brought the simple yet groovy bass, Drew sticks to pocket and Sabrina tells you to be yourself and stop tryna be cool. As for the ending we just wanted to close the song out hardish.

If the band was to open a restaurant named “street lamp” what would the signature dish be called and what would it taste like?

Street Lamp: Would probably just be a bar with wings and steaks lol.

Do you plan to do any collaborations with other artists?

Street Lamp: Been wanting to do a split track with sanity slip. We got the music!

Finally if you could pick any city in the world to play a headline show in… what city would it be and why?

Street Lamp: Iceland or Greenland for Nick. Nashville or LA (cliché she says) Drew wants Seattle. Wario said ALL OF THEM!!!
