This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup

Rock

Brigitte Calls Me Baby – Slumber Party.

Imagine The Smiths with added blues and slightly more upbeat… For me that is exactly what Brigitte Calls Me Baby sounds like. I personally love it. Maybe you will too!

Metal

Beyond The Black – Let There Be Rain.

I am not sure what language the start of the song is in, but it has this magnetising effect on me. When the bass drums kick in its a done deal for me. I love the vocals they have this fragile yet powerful quality to them which is spectacular. Everyone needs to try Symphonic metal!

Beyond The Black – Let There Be Rain (All Rights Are Retained By Beyond The Black)

Metalcore

Maefoy – All Over You.

Catchy yet explosive, is how I would describe the instruments on this track. The second German band in a row btw… The vocals of the clean singer are really beautiful yet have this strong undercurrent especially in the chorus. The harsher vocals are not used as much but are great when they are.

Maefoy – All Over You (All Rights Are Retained By Maefoy)

Punk

Filth Is Eternal – Stay Melted.

The best thing about Punk to me is how many different forms it comes in. In this case its a tuned down guitar, fuzz heavy tune. The female vocals I love and reminds me occasionally of Joan Jett.

Filth Is Eternal – Stay Melted (All Rights Retained By Filth Is Eternal)

Pop Punk

Yellowcard ft Good Charlotte – Bedroom Posters.

What is there not to like about this song? Yellowcard have that fun upbeat vibe that instantly makes me happy. Combined with the slightly more in your face style of Good Charlotte and you have a pop punk anthem. This is excellent.

Alternative

Here And Everywhere – Something To Remember.

We’ve been banging the Here and Everywhere drum since they well were not Here and Everywhere! Aleks the lead singer has a fantastic voice one that just seems to be getting better and better. With a really interesting vocal flow too. This particular song is hard to pin down genre wise, hence its in alternative but there is lashings of Paramore and pop in general thrown in here.

Here And Everywhere – Something To Remember (All Rights Are Retained By Here And Everywhere)

Indie

Girl Tones – Volcano.

I do love me a rock duo! This one Girl Tones is no exception to the rule either… It is high fun, high energy and more importantly very repeatable. I listened to this probably 10 times before adding it to the playlist. The fuzz element to the guitar is what initially brought me in but I stayed for the teamwork they show.

Girl Tones – Volcano (All Rights Are Retained By Girl Tones)

Bonus Track

Mother Vulture – Bedbugs.

I don’t think adding bonus songs is something I am going to be very often but this song just released by our friends Mother Vulture needed to be highlighted! This is a lovely little surprise tune on their new album Cartoon Violence, which also contains a song we reviewed Treadmill. This song have a cracking guitar solo at the end that is worth checking out!

Mother Vulture – Bedbugs (All Rights Are Retained By Mother Vulture)
