New Rock Roundup Vol 43

This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

Follow the playlist!

New Rock Roundup

Rock

Florence Black – Stuck In The Corner.

For Florence Black this is a fairly dialled back song! The slower build up however is rewarded by the incredibly catchy chorus. With slight use of electronic this is another angle I don’t remember the band using before. Will it be one I prefer? Too early to tell.

Florence Black – Stuck In The Corner (All Rights Are Retained By Florence Black)

Metal

Seether – Into The Ground.

Seether are a band that I have never really dug my teeth into. There are some older songs that I do like however so this new song has me thinking about taking a trip back down memory lane. There is a creepy vibe to this song that hooks me in.

Seether – Into The Ground (All Rights Are Retained By Seether)

Metalcore

Lo Rays – Cease And Desist.

Ah Lo Rays, this band are quickly becoming one that people should pay attention to! I have previously reviewed a single, and soon a gig from them. But this song has made me want to review this EP too! Having seen them live now I have to say the pop like clean vocals mixed in with the growls really do contrast well!

Lo Rays – Cease And Desist (All Rights Are Retained By Lo Rays)

Punk

Good Riddance – In Pieces.

Emerging as a political punk band in the 80’s must have been a time rife with inspiration. Ironically I can see why this tune came out now, what with the current leaders destroying cultures… Take a listen to this one and let me know what you think!

Good Riddance – In Pieces (All Rights Are Retained By Good Riddance)

Pop Punk

Cartel – Oxy Moron.

Light, heavy. Both words I would use to describe the sound and subject matter of this song. I really enjoy the end result, the song title is fun too! Pop Punk is incorrectly said to be a smaller subgenre , this song demonstrates you can actually do a lot with it.

Cartel – Oxy Moron (All Rights Are Retained By Cartel)

Alternative

Switchfoot – Wake Up, Mr.Crow.

Another band I am not so well versed in! The playful nature is what pulled me into this one. As well a strange but cool vocal flow , Radiohead references and a massive riff!

Switchfoot – Wake Up, Mr.Crow (All Rights Are Retained By Switchfoot)

Indie

Vegaslice – Love Love Love.

Not every band I mention has to have a massive following. Vegaslice have 500 monthly listeners which is a crime. A real feel good indie vibe that I fully intend on exploring further.

Vegaslice – Love Love Love (All Rights Are Retained By Vegaslice)
