This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!
There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup
Rock
Thirty Seconds To Mars – Over My Head.
I will pretty much always enjoy whatever this band stick out! Leto’s vocals just have this hypnotising effect on me, while the band is considerably smaller now in members their music doesn’t seem to have been negatively effected.
Metal
Lo Rays – Playing Both Sides.
Electronic, poppy and full of metal drive hooks. Lo Rays yet again prove why they are a band to keep an eye on. I am actually seeing the band later this month and thoroughly enjoyed reviewing their previous release (Read Here). The pace of this song is a little up and down, but that makes the electronic/drum & bass elements really hit harder.
Metalcore
Atreyu – All For You.
I went more melodic for my pick for this section this week. The singing vocals come across as really sincere. Also the layering on them is expertly done, it is so subtle it could actually be missed. It’s not till 1/4 into the song where harsh vocals come in, and while enjoyable for me to be perfectly honest I don’t think they are needed.
Punk
Mizery ft DRAIN – Eulogy.
This is a really interesting one, with rap like vocals over this filthy guitar section. The combination between is rather enjoyable. The hook for me in this song is that cycling riff that just gets me moving.
Pop Punk
Free Throw – The Outlaw Star.
They waste absolutely no time at all in getting in your faces with the typical pop-punk style vocals. What is different though is the guitar which throughout I can’t decide if it elevates the band to something else, or just feels out of place. The song in general though is excellent. A quick paced bit of fun.
Alternative
Yeast Machine – Honey & Sweet.
A band that I find massively interesting in the way they craft their songs! I was lucky enough to get a peak behind the curtain with our interview too (Read Here). With fuzz, psych and a general laid back vibe combined with solid riffs and drumming. Oh and enjoy the cowbell…
Indie
Arienas – Start Again.
We recently featured another song by Arienas (Click here to read) what I really enjoy about this band is the bright and breezy feel of their music! You could enjoy this music in a field with your friends and watch the time melt away. This song is slightly darker in nature but the sentiment stays.
