The Album Breakdown
This is the bands most ambitious album where they showed absolutely no fear creatively. While the album before it “The Real Thing” had amazing levels of commercial success, the band pushed further here past their alt-metal label. Blending metal, funk, pop like melodies and new found extreme levels of singer Mike Patton vocals. The result was something completely fresh and new!
While the album is experimental, its biggest strength is possibly how it still manages to feel so cohesive. Some for sure will find this new experimental edge too much, while the intentional strangeness can be jarring for new listeners. While overall the album is a landmark album for people looking for a taste of the 90’s some of the songs do feel unfinished.
Highlight Tracks
One of the bands finest songs! Driven by the fusion of sharp drumming and an iconic vocal performance with a real focus on melody. There is an undertone of gothic deliciousness too! While it is complex it somehow also keeps its catchy nature.
Not one of the most listened to tracks on the album BUT the heaviest! It feels unhinged, dangerous and deranged.
