From The Archives: System of a Down – System of a Down

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

The worlds introduction to their odd, chaotic and aggressive genre smashing sound. It mixed traditional Armenian folk with nu-metal riffs, thrash and vocals that could have a spot on the gymnastics team in an Olympics.

It serves as a political protest and looks at war, control and the Armenian genocide. It’s raw energy gave them the footprints to follow to their later success.

Highlight Tracks

The breakout single has a funk like bassline that errupts into a jazz rock frenzy. Serj knows how to switch between spoken word and massive screams.

System Of A Down – Sugar (All Rights Are Retained By System Of A Down)

With it’s haunting atmosphere it slows the pacing of the album right down. It’s a paranoid inducing build-up and shows the bands ability to balance dark alt metal with cinematic stylings.
