You’re playing Bloodstock Open Air in 2026! What is it that you love most about playing that specific festival?
It’s so special to us it’s difficult to put into words. We wouldn’t be where we are now without Bloodstock. They have believed in us, backed us and given us amazing opportunities to party with their community. We can’t express enough gratitude to the organisers and to the fans who keep asking for us to come back. We always throw everything we have at the show! This year will be the silliest yet…
We need to discuss makeup and leather trousers. It’s been incredibly hot recently, and I suspect it is even hotter under stage lights. If Evil Scarecrow released heavy-duty stage cosmetics, what would the name and slogan be?
Ha! Erm. How did you know about our secret project? We’ve been keeping this very hush hush. Along with our up coming range of lingerie for middle aged men and a new AI bot that can only answer in swear words.
You’re not important enough to know about any of this. Plus who knows who you’ll tell?

Your songs often start with an odd premise but end up being incredibly well-constructed and technical musically. How do you strike the balance between being funny and delivering high-level craftsmanship?
We just fucking love heavy, alternative music. We want to write great songs! But, at the end of the day, we’re just very silly people. I’m not sure how to even approach something that isn’t odd. So stinking a balance isn’t a particularly conscious effort.
Crabulon has achieved total cult status in the metal community. Is there, however, a different song in your back catalogue that you wish people appreciated more for the music? If so, which song and why?

There are definitely a few. But I think if its musicality then it would be our 10min track ‘Antartartcica’. In a weird way it felt like a mini concept album. We don’t play the same riff twice, it’s got all sorts of vocal styles and orchestral pieces, and it just took ages to pull together. Full kudos to our amazing record producer Russ Russell who genuinely made that track what it is.
When people finally look past the monsters, lasers, and humour, what do you ultimately hope they discover or understand about the true heart of Evil Scarecrow?
That we are just some dudes trying to bring some good varied music to the scene and give you a good time (not in a sexy way…). Ahh fuck it. Why not? ALSO in a sexy way. Life is short, let’s do the weird, whimsical shit that makes us happy. Let’s celebrate our subculture together, dance like idiots and play a solo badly because we’re too busy laughing.
I love “The Future Machine” from your 2025 album. If you actually took a trip in a real time machine, what do you think you would see in the year 2070? Bonus points for telling us about the status of rock and metal.
Haha. We love that one too. Originally it was called ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel’…
Hmm 2070. Well for those of us who grew up in the 80s we were expecting hoverboards and flying cars by now. So I imagine everyone will still be sat around being grumpy that we don’t have them yet.
When the literary and film making community predicted AI I am not sure they realised what a ‘yes man gas lighting ass hole’ it would be. So I expect we’ll all be in some sort of therapy dealing with toxic relationships with our new AI partners, there will be fewer births, Attenborough will still be here narrating what’s let’s of our broken humanity.
I predict a resurgence in Alien Ant Farm.
