Who was the best singer for Black Sabbath? Ronnie James Dio or Ozzy Osbourne?

I’ll go first. In my opinion, The best eras of Black Sabbath contained Ozzy. Those songs and albums are just iconic.

    In my opinion Ozzy is Sabbath, he is unique both vocally and in life. Therefore he is the right answer in this case. However for sure Dio was a much better singer. Sometimes a singer might not be a great fit for a band , and another singer might not be as good technically but blend better. Thats the case here for me.

    As you said Dio was a better singer, but Ozzy is Black Sabbath and cannot be replaced.

    Completely agree. Ozzy is unique. Black Sabbath without Ozzy – something is missing.
    Dio is also a great singer – but not for Black Sabath.

    Ozzy would be the more iconic/associated singer for Black Sabbath, while Dio wold be the more talented singer. Both had pretty good stage presence, but Ozzy was a bit more animated and less stoic compared to Dio. I’ve already stated that Dio is one of my faves, but Ozzy gets the nod here.

    Oy veh!
    Big, big Sabbath fan here. My answer is that all of the lead singers, Tony Martin included, Ian Gillian included, bring forth their own charm. But my LP copy of “Live Evil” is on the record shelf. Dio’s voice pretty much is the narrative tone of my teen years. So, there you go.
