As to just favorite vocalist, at least of the bands we all listened to when I was growing up and when we had these “best of” discussions/arguments all the time? I was always partial to Steve Walsh of Kansas.

For me, it’s a three-way tie between Robert Plant, Rob Halford, and Freddy Mercury

I voted for Bruce Dickinson, but I think there are a ton of others who are just as good or even better. James LaBrie (although I find him a little whiny) and Russell Allen come to mind.

How can one choose? Range? Volume, Tone? Scream? You’ll have to give me some tine to mull it over…

I realized I mentioned one of them in this post I did a while back: https://linesbyleon.com/2024/02/05/music-monday-1983-its-gettin-heavy/ , so I suppose that seals the deal.

Had I known Geoff Tate had 0 votes, I would’ve gone with him over Dio, because they are 1 and 1A in my book. For those unfamiliar w/Mr. Tate, watch their (Queensryche) “Take Hold of the Flame” Live in Tokyo video -and keep in mind that those clear notes are LIVE w/very little effects. His energy and stage presence easily matches anyone else’s. I would deem Dio just ahead of Geoff based more on longevity than anything, as Mr. Tate probably had the better range. Nothing wrong with the other choices, just my personal preferences.

Ray Alder Fates Warning. Great control, fantastic midrange and he’s still powerful almost 40 years later

Great site…would you consider doing a deep dive on the first album by CRACK THE SKY…still consider them one of greatest bands that never was. Thanks

Would that be the self titled album from 1975 ? I’d probably do a song or 2 , depends on if I have time but I could certainly look at covering the album eventually 🤔
