Let’s start this new post type with a big bang! My all-time favourite song Ace of Spades by Motörhead.
How has it shaped me?
I must admit, I’m usually a cautious individual who prefers playing it safe rather than taking unnecessary risks. I’d rather go the extra mile to ensure everything is perfect than risk making a mistake. However, this particular song has a magical effect on me. It fills me with a newfound confidence and a daring spirit to embrace risks, live life to the fullest, and simply have a blast. Because, let’s face it, the essence of this song lies in taking chances and embracing the thrill of uncertainty.
When did I first hear it ?
I think it was featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, a game I played excessively on the PlayStation. It consistently helped me achieve high scores, so I may have been guilty of constantly selecting that track just to hear “My Song” again.
When is the perfect time to listen to it ?
While working out! I think that is the perfect time for me to blast this song! It really pumps me up and pushes me to stay focused and motivated.
Additional notes
Lemmy (Kilmister) may not possess the typical hard rock voice like Bruce Dickinson, Dio, or Ozzy, but what sets him apart is his unique raspiness that perfectly complements the song’s tempo. The song flows effortlessly, with every element – guitar (Eddie Clark), vocals, bass (Lemmy), and drums (Phil Taylor) – harmonizing flawlessly. Even the ending is pure perfection! It’s fascinating how the song cleverly incorporates all the gambling cliches, and Lemmy used to have a playful moment when performing it live by singing the eight of spaces just to see if anyone would notice. Another cool fact is that Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters) got an Ace of Spades tattoo as a tribute to Lemmy.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have witnessed Motörhead’s last performance at Download Festival. Experiencing your favourite song live is a memory that will stay with me eternally. So, if you’re debating whether to purchase tickets to see the artist behind your beloved song, go for it. You never know when chances will slip away, so take a risk and live life to the fullest.
