    Not going to personalize it, but Cat’s in the Cradle is a pretty haunting song about fatherhood. Everyone can relate to some degree with those lyrics.

    I think that it represented the deaths of his musical heroes and what they meant to him. He was all about rock and roll from the beginning of the genre, guys like Elvis and Gene Vincent, and Buddy. Holly, etc, were his first idols.

    I didn’t see much of my dad when I was a kid or before he died, but for some reason, Simon & Garfunkel “I am a rock” ALWAYS makes me think of him!

    My Pops, for reasons unknown, listened almost exclusively to Dave Matthews Band during my childhood. He had every studio and live album (DMB has A LOT of live albums).

    So there isn’t a specific song, but anytime I hear anything DMB, it reminds me of my Pops. It’s not rock, but quality music nonetheless.

    Anything by the Grateful Dead. Probably this one, because it was their late career hit, from my own lifetime (1987), such that I remember getting to share Dad’s favorite music with him every time this video came on MTV.

    Once upon a time, a friend came over unexpectedly with tickets to see Ratt and this Bon Jovi band. I agreed to go, and so saw the early Jovi. I have never been a fan, but I respect their staying power very much.

    “Sir Duke” – Stevie Wonder. My dad used to blur this on his stereo when I was a little kid. You know, back on the 70s, when stereos were still a status symbol for the American male.

    “listen to the music” – The Doobie Brothers. I want to say that this was one of my dad‘s “go to” songs. I’m not really sure what the connection was with him, but it always makes me think of him.
