Sleep Token: The Summoning – Monumental Track from Take Me Back to Eden Album

Sleep Token, the mysterious band, dropped their monumental track “The Summoning” from their most recent album “Take Me Back to Eden” in 2023. With an impressive 137 million streams, it’s a massive success! The band members are clad in black cloaks, masks, barefoot, and adorned in black paint. Despite their appearance, their sound is nothing like Slipknot or Ghost. Their performance is more understated and carries a darker essence.

The band’s entire repertoire is devoted to the enigmatic deity “Sleep”. As per the band’s mythology, this divine entity appeared to the lead singer, who goes by the name “Vessel”, in a dream and bestowed upon him the promise of glory.

At the start of the track, you might think it’s going to be all about heavy guitar (IV), bass (III), and drums (II), but then it smoothly transitions into the vocals (Vessel), giving off some serious pop vibes. The chorus is catchy, an earworm that instead drills into the brain.

“Raise me up again
Take me past the edge
I want to see the other side
See the other side”

As the song progresses, the riffs get heavier, the screams kick in, and there’s a headbang-inducing breakdown. With blast beats and gritty riffs, this track is sure to get you moving. It takes a prog-like turn with an epic solo that leaves you craving for more. The funky ending wraps up the journey this band takes you on, complete with hi-hats and cool guitar effects.

In my opinion, these masked individuals are pushing the boundaries of rock to the extreme. It’s quite remarkable how they seamlessly transition from metal to funk! Notably, the band has had the opportunity to tour with Architects, and it’s no surprise that they have consistently sold out almost every show since.

They serve as an excellent entry point for anyone interested in exploring rock music, but it would be unfair to dismiss them as just a stepping stone. These guys are truly phenomenal! If you’re a fan of Breaking Benjamin or Imagine Dragons, this band is worth checking out.

I’m curious to witness these performances first-hand, especially to confirm whether it’s true that Vessel doesn’t engage with the audience at all between songs. It seems like they’re trying to maintain the mystery and anonymity of the band, which I hope they uphold for years to come.

8/10
