This is the latest instalment in the “Songs That Shaped Me” series on Fox Reviews Rock. This time, I am going to be covering Bullet For My Valentine – Tears Don’t Fall. You can listen to it in the YouTube video below.
How Has It Shaped Me?
It showed me that love may cause pain, but it also brings incredible emotions and memories. The good things far outweigh the bad, and it’s worth seeking out that special someone. It also motivated me to start going to rock and metal concerts by myself after I saw Bullet For My Valentine at the Manchester Arena. This eventually led me to attend Download Festival for the first time not long after that.
When Did I First Hear It?
I would have been in the middle of school, going through some sort of breakup at the time. And as all teenagers believe, it felt like the end of the world. It wasn’t even a footnote. Life now is pretty darn great, and I look back at these times with laughter. I vividly remember having it on my iPod at the time and later on having it as my phone ringtone. I think the riffs are what drew me in first , but then the lyrics started to click in my head too. To be honest there really is nothing I would change about this song, even the video is great!
When Is The Perfect Time To Listen To It?
I guess when you want some melodic heavy music. It’s as if all of my favourite songs are fantastic workout songs. If you are going through a breakup, I expect this song will help with the progression into life without that person too.
Additional Notes
Bullet for my Valentine, previously known as Jeff Killed John, was established in 1998 in Wales. Over the years, the band has experienced a few changes in its lineup, with only vocalist Matt Tuck and lead guitarist Michael Paget remaining from the original members.
Specializing in heavy metal music, they have released a total of seven albums, with their latest self-titled album coming out in 2021. Apart from their popular track “Tears Don’t Fall,” they have also produced hits like “Your Betrayal,” “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me),” and “Waking The Demon.”
I’m excited to catch them live next year on their co-headline tour with Trivium, named “Poisoned Ascendancy,” alongside Cozzer and Vixen where they will be performing their debut albums in full along with other fan favourites. A fun fact about Bullet For My Valentine is that two of the current members were part of the supergroup Axewound, which included musicians from Zoax, Cancer Bats, and Glamour Of The Kill.
