Introduction to Myriad

Myriad, the indie 4-piece band (David, Jared, OJ & Rai) from Southampton, joins us today for our very first interview on Fox Reviews Rock! Fresh from the release of their latest EP “Move to LA,” which continues to enhance the band’s popularity by showcasing their clean indie guitar sound. The EP, which features a single with the same name, has already piqued the interest of the industry, with Fern Buckley from BBC Introducing describing it as “Just so good! Loving it so much”.

Talking about their EP, the band states that “Move to L.A” is about chasing the excitement and drama you get with a turbulent relationship. It’s about imagining all of the things that you would do with that one person if everything were just a little bit more stable…”.

After selling out two shows in their hometown and a festival run including Teddy Rocks and Isle Of Wight Festival, it is plain to see that this band is on the up! With over 920,000 Spotify streams and impressive social media followings, there is no doubt that this will only continue.

How did the band members meet each other?

“We met at uni – we were actually “put” together in our uni course, but have stayed together since then!”

If you had to describe Myriad in 5 words what would they be ?

“Fresh, upbeat, high-energy, indie, rock”

What made you choose Myriad as your band name ? (Myriad means A countless or extremely great number of people or things)

“Jared just found a bunch of random words that we didn’t know what they meant (at the time) and we just decided that the word Myriad seemed cool”

Myriad – Move To LA (All Rights Are Retained By Myriad)

Your latest E.P Move to L.A came out this year. What’s the reaction to that been ?

“It has been amazing! It has been our most streamed release this month which is awesome, and we’ve been on more radio stations than we can count, including BBC Introducing and BBC South Today!”

I’m guessing the intention is to release an album in the not so distant future , is it already in the works?

“We definitely want to release an album, and once we have a couple more massive tunes we’ll definitely be recording one”

Speaking of massive tunes Afterglow is an absolute anthem, can you give us a little background to the lyrics?

“It’s about growing up on social media and finding it hard to stop comparing yourself to others”

Rex wants to know what is the funniest Spotify playlist you have been added to ?

“Hot alt tiktok girls” and “How I deal with being a gay mentally ill b**** “

You played the Kashmir Café at the Isle Of Wight festival, what was it like to play the festival and did you meet any massive bands along the way?

“It was an amazing experience, we didn’t meet any famous bands, but we did catch up with our good friends The Mezz”

Who would you say are the bands biggest influence in music?

“Probably bands like The 1975, the Strokes and Two Door Cinema Club”

We have another question from Rex who wants to know where you got the blazer that you wear in your recent afterglow Instagram short? They think it’s very snazzy and they want it!

“A very mystical location which we are unable to disclose!”

Which part of the creative process comes first , the lyrics or the tune?

“Lyrics are always the final thing to be added – we usually have a vibe for a song, and a chorus written out first”

What is your dream in music, what do you want to achieve?

“We’d love to play our songs to crowds who sing our songs back to us and love being there (which is starting to happen now!) Some of our dream venues included: Isle of Wight Festival main stage, Wembley stadium and O2 arena”

We particularly love your guitar sound it is incredibly catchy , which guitarist did you look up to when growing up?

“Adam Hann (1975) and Brian May (Queen)”

What was it like selling out two shows in your hometown of Southampton?

“It was wild – the most recent one at Heartbreakers was easily in the top 3 Myriad shows ever. 2025 will be even bigger, we have some massive shows in the works…”
