After having our daily browse on Ticketmaster, we came across Electric 6 tickets for a steal at £22 each. They were playing at the Metronome in Nottingham and supported by the T is for Thomas band.
We have never been to the Metronome; it is hidden inside Marco Island with a small capacity of 400, which was sold out. It was super easy to check in and we headed to the bar and merch area. There were no prices displayed, but a pint of lager and a coke cost £9.
There was only a small selection of merchandise; however, this included gay bar mugs and McDonald’s tea towels to accompany a couple of Electric 6’s bigger hits. It was a nice surprise to see something a little different than usual, although as avid vinyl collectors, we wish there was at least one available.
Once drinks were in hand and merchandise purchased, we headed into the auditorium and managed to get ourselves right at the front with no hassle.
Then it began.

T is for Thomas Band came out on stage, the two guitarists began and were then joined by the lead singer, bassist, and drummer, all rocking double denim.
Within minutes of playing the first song ‘BB&G’ and dancing around the cluttered stage, the lead singer Tom Hogg managed to knock his beer off the amp. This was later replaced by a very generous fan. However, that didn’t stop the enthusiastic atmosphere of the crowd or the show. They swiftly continued into their debut single ‘More or Less a King’ while a towel was being sourced by the venue staff.
Between songs, there was a good amount of crowd interaction, including a happy birthday sing-along for handsome Charlie’s (the guitarist) birthday, a couple of Gary Lineker jokes on behalf of the drummer with a strong resemblance, and telling us how they’ve known Electric 6 for 21 years.
Although they had a short set with only 7 songs in half an hour, they definitely got the crowd ready for the rest of the evening and sounded fantastic! They finished with their new song ‘Losing’ and then finally ‘Call Me Suck’ by Hoggboy, one of the 3 members of the previous band.
With a familiar glam rock sound similar to Bowie combined with T-Rex, they’ve definitely made fans out of us with their slick riffs and great showmanship! We even booked an interview with them, so keep an eye out for updates.
After a quick change of equipment, but with enough time to grab another drink, Electric 6 entered the stage!

Jumping straight into two songs from their latest album ‘Turquoise’ they played the title track followed by ‘Dr K’, the crowd was energetic and dancing around! A variety of songs were played from their 17 albums including ‘Danger!’, ‘Gay Bar’, and ‘Naked Pics’, completely satisfying the need for dance punk and comedy rock everyone needs on a Sunday night!
There was little crowd interaction from the lead singer, Dick Valentine; however, the guitarist on the left (Herb S Flavourings) was seen taking selfies, throwing out plectrums, and even letting someone strum his guitar while playing. Most likely leaving great memories for those lucky enough to have experienced them!
Although there were few breaks in between songs, the set didn’t feel rushed and the evening went at an enjoyable pace. There was enough time to experience all the eccentric dance moves from Dick.
As the evening was drawing to a close, the band left the stage with the crowd wanting more! Luckily for us, they had three encore songs lined up. Beginning with “Murder on the Dance Floor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the crowd once again was singing their hearts out, quickly followed by “Hello! I See You” and finishing with “Dance Commander” from the album “Fire” as a perfect ending to the night!
Leaving the venue was easy and we welcomed the cool night air, still pumped with adrenaline. We were saying how we wish we had listened to them more when we were younger and how great both bands were live!
The only thing we believe was lacking was crotch lights from the iconic ‘Danger! High Voltage’ music video, although they may have clashed with his bright yellow jeans!
