Introduction to Kensei
Kensei is one hell of an interesting band. Forged in the Black Country in England (Dudley to be exact), the band is making waves at the moment! Recently winning Metal To The Masses has given them the opportunity to play at Bloodstock 2024!
Bringing high energy and big sing-along tunes, anyone who catches them at Bloodstock is in for a treat! They bring some massive riffs, and every member of the band contributes to the sound brilliantly. With new music being released already this year by the band, we at Fox Reviews Rock cannot wait to see what the future holds for the band (and to grab a beer or five with them)!
For a Melodic Death Metal band I must say that Dave (Lead Vocals) is an absolute pleasure to talk to and a breath of fresh air! I have no doubt the band would bring it hard but then moments later sit down for a chat with anyone who wanted to talk to them! Catch them on social media.

Interview
How long have you guys been together as a band?
We have been a band for nearly 3 years now with our first rehearsal being in August 2021!
What genre/sub-genre would you say your band is?
We class ourselves as Melodic Death Metal but we also love Big Massive Chunky Metalcore Choruses so we incorporate that into our sound too!
Kensei means sword saint and is an honourary title given by the Japanese to their best swordsman, what made you pick this as your band name?
It was actually Matt that picked our name as he is very much into Japanese Lore and such! We even have a song named Nodachi! So when he pitched it we all thought it was unique and easy to remember so that’s why we went with it!
On the subject of swords do any of you own any? We have noticed you’re fans of anime, which is your favourite?
None of us own any swords no, but Dave is very much into Anime, some of his favourites include Sword Art Online, Dragonball Z and Tokyo Ghoul!
How was filming your first music video for ‘Paralysis’ did it go as planned?
Yes it was fantastic! This our first official music video filmed for Kensei so we are excited to show you all the hard work we have put into this, and None of it would have happened without the amazing Ironside Studios! Everyone should send him some Love!

You guys have managed to secure a place at bloodstock how does it feel to be playing such a great festival and how did it come about?
So we are proud to say we will be representing Birmingham as winners of this year’s Metal to the Masses Competition! It’s been an absolute blast the lovely people at Capsarx Studios have put it on this year and last year and it was absolutely fantastic!! And to play Bloodstock is an absolute dream for us as a band we have been working so hard to finally achieve this and we cannot wait to show everyone what we have in store!
Do you guys have any more shows lined up?
Yes we have recently booked our big Bloodstock warm up party in our hometown of Dudley at Ye Olde Foundry! Along with our brothers in Nameless and Skull Fox! Free Entry too so if anyone is around come down!!
What do you guys listen to before a show if anything?
We all have such a selected and eclectic music taste as a band so as long as it has big energy and big vibes that’s what we love!
Will Kensei release an album and if so when can we expect it?
Nothing in the pipeline for us regarding an album just yet but we do have some killer singles out and you can check them out on our socials and all good streaming services!
What hobbies do you have outside of music?
We all have families of our own so we do like spending time with our families outside of music! But if we aren’t doing that we are all into Gaming and Matt is very into Jiu Jitsu!
Anything you’d like to tell the people listening?
YES We are Kensei and we are from the Black Country we are 5 people who love to meet people and make angry music!! So please check us out on our socials, drop us a like a share a comment or a message if you want we are here for you! And for anyone at Bloodstock this year come and find us we would love to have a beer with you!!
