Interview

What was your inspiration for your new single ‘more or less a king’?

“It’s a tale of bitter disappointment when meeting ones idols but also coupled with the frustration of acquaintances endlessly talking of coat tail greatness.”

“Its not aimed at anyone in particular just a collective experience from over the years, fame and success doesn’t alway breed greatness, which is a shame.”

Tom, you’ve worked with some pretty big names (Paul Weller, The Libertines, The Walkmen, Cold War Kids, The White Stripes, The Strokes and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs) , who’s been the most enjoyable to work with?

They were all very special for different reasons tbh. I have very fond memories of the Weller shows, they were huge….also the first time I’d had full catering on a tour, rate good, I would recommend!

I’m a massive Walkmen fan, to tour with those guys was a big deal and Jonathan Fire* Eater are still in my top 5 bands of all time, that was pretty dam cool…

Are you planning on releasing an album? If so what will you be releasing it on? (Cds, vinyl, Spotify etc)

Yep, album will be out next year, full streaming and a vinyl release – not named as yet, still toying with titles…

What is your favourite electric six song and why?

Synthesiser – great memories from touring with them during their FIRE period

Do you plan on adding more to Spotify, as there’s only 4 on there and 2 are instrumental

Indeed there will be a couple more singles before the album drops next year. Keep ‘em peeled!

Who are you musical influences and why?

Lots: Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, David Bowie, T REX, Beatles, Stones, Jonathan Fire Eater, Sex Pistols, Clash, Beach Boys, Eddie Cochran, John Prine and loads and loads of other great stuff…

Why?….Well a good song, is a good song, is a good song…

Have you ever been to a gay bar with Dick Valentine? If so what happened? If not , what do you think would happen ?

I don’t think so no. I have been out boozing with him though. We once consumed several “Absinth Rinse” cocktails in a bar in Brooklyn and as such I don’t really know what happened…but can confirm we are still good friends!

As you’ve previously been in Hoggboy and the Hosts, what’s it like starting over playing in new bands?

No big deal really, just a continuation of whats gone before, all be it with slightly different clientele. I very happy with it all at this moment.

What was going through your mind in Nottingham when you knocked your beer off early into the set?

Ha, ha! Not sure, probably “S**T!” – after the beer went down the stage was like an ice rink, I was pretty much pinned to the spot, for fear of wipe out.

How did the band members meet?

We’ve all know each other a while. I was in Hoggboy with Rich and Hugh, Dave was a good friend of ours and Mike is my next door neighbour. Charlie was last in, but we’ve know each other since he was 17 and working in studios in Sheffield, when he came to start rehearsals it just clicked and we were complete.

What’s your favourite gig you have played together so far and why?

We’ve still only played 8 shows ever, but I think the best of those was LEEDS BRUDENELL SOCIAL, it was just one of those perfect storms. A sell out and the crowd we’re stupidly chatty, which suits me, and of course we played real well – it only wins by a whisker though, all 8 have been amazing really.

Describe T is for Thomas’s music in 3 words

Denim Northern Boys

What’s the funniest thing you have ever seen at a gig?

Some idiot spill his beer 2 songs in at Nottingham Metronome and turn the stage into an ice rink!! No but seriously, I did once see Marilyn Manson at a festival somewhere in Europe, he had a pair of telescopic legs, hilarity ensued…

Thank you for doing this interview, we hope to see you again soon! *golf clap*

It’s a shame they don’t have more up on Spotify as we’d love to have shared more clips! It is on thier agenda and we are looking forward to it!
