For the most part this rivalry was in good spirit , with the Rolling Stones stealing some of The Beatles sales according the the band. Realistically they were good friends , with the Beatles filling a slightly different market to the Rolling Stones.

I feel like the Beatles vs Stones debate is still divisive 60 years later. I guess that shows the importance of both bands. For me, it is always The Beatles. Between these two songs, definitely The Beatles. This is one of their greatest tunes. You’d have to dig pretty far into the Beatles catalog for Paint It Black to get my vote. 😄

I would say both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are equal meaning both bands were very talented and produced great music. The Beatles had their one kind of sound and when a song began to play you could tell it was them, They had songs I liked and others I could pass up. With The Rolling Stones it was the same a song began and right away you knew it was the Stones. Lots to like and some songs I could pass up. So for me it just depends on my mood, the kind of songs I would like to hear, and I have both bands on my list of Favorites on YouTube.

Between these two songs, I’ll go with Paint It Black. Here Comes the Sun is not my favorite Beatles tune, but not one I dislike by any means.

Overall, however, I like both bands. My parents influenced my initial Beatles fandom, but once I branched on on my own, I grew to see both bands as on equal footing, serving two different sounds in the same era. The Beatles tended towards being more diverse in their sound, whereas the Stones always sound like Stones and I can’t fault them for that. Beatles had a solid grasp on experimentation, while the Stones helped define the basics many bands go back to.

    Tossup.

I was a rabid Stones fan until the turn of the 21st century. I liked the Beatles at first, when I was just hitting puberty in the 60s, but then I saw the Rolling Stones on Ed Sullivan, saw my parents’ revulsion, and it was a no-brainer for me. The Beatles tried to become edgier, but the Stones were successful at “edge” from the beginning. I was even known as “The Stones Fan” in high school, because my locker was plastered with Stones pics, and I first saw them live when I was 16. This was all pre-Bowie (I was a late bloomer as a Bowie fan. I came to my senses in the late 70s and have been Bowie-obsessed ever since).

I still hold on to the conviction the Stones should have retired early aughts. I know they’re still creating and entertaining; however I feel they’ve become caricatures of themselves…but it doesn’t change my vote. Stones all the way.

The Beatles and the Stones were both fantastic during the 1960s, but for quality, breadth and innovation in songcraft and in production the Beatles couldn’t be beaten. The Stones progressed rapidly during the Sixties, but even they created nothing that could bear comparison with ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ or ‘A Day in the Life’, the former being recorded only four years after ‘Love Me Do’!

As for the two songs, I’ll go for George Harrison’s masterpiece. It’s more subtle and has aged better.

It’s nearly impossible to pick just one Beatles album as my favorite—there are so many incredible ones! However, if I had to choose, I’d say everything from “With The Beatles” and “Revolver” stand out as my top picks. Both albums showcase their unique evolution and exceptional creativity. “With The Beatles” captures their early charm and energy, while “Revolver” represents their groundbreaking experimentation and musical growth. Each album offers a different glimpse into their genius, making it hard to choose just one.

Yeah Revolver was the beginning of the changes for the Band. It showcased a more experimental and sophisticated sound, incorporating diverse influences and innovative studio techniques. This departure from their earlier, more straightforward pop-rock style highlighted their growth as musicians and set the stage for their future work.

I love here comes the summer, it’s one of my feel good songs and I love the guitar melody.

I did use to love rocking out to paint in black on guitar hero though.

I think I may edge towards the Beatles on this one today.

The Beatles’ musical catalogue is far more diverse than the Stones. They experimented with different styles over a fairly short period of time, so it makes them more interesting to me. The Stones have some really great songs, too, though.

It’s always been The Stones for me, and always will be. Paint it, Black is an all-time favourite, and pretty much everything else the Stones have done works for me. The Beatles have done a few that I love – Let It Be, Hey Jude, Elinor Rigby – and Here Comes The Sun is okay, but they just don’t have the pull that The Stones do, for me. 😊

I wish I knew. Their music just speaks to me in a way the Beatles’ doesn’t. When I hear the Stones I want to get up and dance – as I do with Hey Jude and Let It Be. I guess the primeval instinct to dance is the key. Unlock that, unlock me! 😂

Overall, The Beatles. The first time I heard them (in the 90s) I hadn’t heard anything like it b/c my dad was very much a Classic Rock guy and that was the basis of my musical knowledge when I became a consumer of music in my own right. But I can’t deny that even today there are more Stones songs in my playlists than Beatles songs.

And Beast of Burden? It just hits every time.

Beatles! Great compositions and lyrics, and they had George Martin to add symphonic polish.

The Stones have created a lot of great material and of course managed to keep performing for half a century. Yet if the Beatles had stayed together longer, there might have been no contest between these two bands at all.

My first thought was that if I were on a desert island and had to choose one band’s music it would be the Beatles because they were story tellers. After Love Me Do they never found that edgy side again, not really. For the pleasure of that millionth of a second timing that makes them listenable, the Stones. YMMV 🙂

It’s a hard choice but I have to say the Beatles. I love the song choices you have from both the Stones and the Beatles. Either song depends on the mood I’m in but overall I just love the Beatles. Everything about their way of singing, the melodies, the lyrics and tones of the songs. It’s peaceful in a sense, but each word feels meaningful and purposeful.
