Cozzer’s Question 26/08/24

What are some of your favourite Effects or Effects Pedals that are used in Rock or Metal music?

I’ll go first. One of my favourite Effects that is used is a loop pedal. The ability to create looping sections of music live that you can layer up is always interesting to me and certainly creates sound interesting pieces of music.

For ear blasting sound that reverberates it’s the distortion pedal.

I always loved playing around with my E-Bow. It’s a fun sound to use when you want that permanent, sustained drone (it’ll last as long as the battery lasts). Not many bands have used it, but I know the Mission did on their early albums and I believe the Church used one at the end of “Tantalized”.

For bass and guitar, I have always been partial to a chorus pedal as long as it doesn’t “worble” (“technical” term, LOL).

Flange was fun for a spell, as is the Wahwah pedal.

Wah is certainly fun and chorus is a great effect too. I’ve never used an E-bow but it sounds fun 🤘🏻

I second that. Superfuzz! It defines my favorite bands during my college years, especially Mudhoney.

Anything John Petrucci uses. I know he has a signature pedal called The Dreamscape, but I have no idea if it’s better than similar others. I’ve certainly watched countless demonstrations, and darn if I’m not a little biased (since in my mind he can do no wrong)! 🎸🤓

Back when I still played, I liked to just sit around and improvise at times. My little programmable Fender G-Dec amp was a hoot for that sort of stuff. It provided effects for the guitar, plus programmable basslines, and percussion. I found about them from a friend who was a session guitarist.

Yesterday I listened and sang along to Boston’s Third Stage album for the millionth time since December 1987 😂

How I could I gave forgotten Tom Scholz’s Rockman Guitar Processor?! 🎸🤓🤘

The wah wah pedal. Or as I like to think of it, the foot-operated EQ sweep filter. It can:

Give you that throaty “cocked-wah” sound

Similarly, many will serve as a treble booster if left on fully down

Sweep to just the correct freq. to encourage feedback to jump out

Do the jaw-harp/Jews-harp thing where you seem to be playing a tune with a sustained or feedback note

    Does the wacka-wacka funk thing

    Vocalize playing

The wah is kind of out of style right now, but I still have one on my board.
