Interview
Your latest album, Kentucky Gold, was released recently. What has the reception been like for it?
It’s been incredible! I have been blown away by the reception so far. I’m anxious to see what happens in the coming months with all of it!
You broke your leg at 16, and this stopped you from playing the drums. Do you miss it? And have you tried to play again since?
I don’t miss it, no. I felt like the guitar gave me the ability to fully express myself, and that was something that I hung onto. I have randomly sat behind a kit at soundcheck or rehearsal, but it still doesn’t feel comfortable. I feel more at home with a guitar around my neck.
Do you find it more difficult to collaborate with other musicians as you never learned to read music?
I think it depends on their level of education as a musician, but overall, I don’t find it to be difficult. I can still speak the lingo, although I’m not classically trained.

You grew up around music with your dad, do you feel you had extra pressure to be a musician?
It was always a fun hobby for my dad, so it wasn’t a lifestyle like it is for me. In hindsight, I think he was as cool as he was about me wanting to be a musician because of that passion he had for it as a hobby. I also think he was fairly mind-boggled that it all took hold as quickly as it did for me, so he was always supportive.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
A professional baseball player or a chef. The latter was what I would always see pop up when I did aptitude tests in school. I think it’s another way of creative expression, so I have always been drawn to that. Baseball was just my passion at an early age, and I was successful in those endeavors.
What is your own personal favorite song off the new record and why?
I personally love “Can’t Hold Me Back” because of the message and the ferocity that it contains. It’s a very primal song. It feels like the appropriate “comeback” song for me at this point.
If you could liken yourself to any artist from the past, who would it be?
This is a slippery slope! I draw influences from a lot of different classic and southern rock acts. I try not to compare myself to others, but if I had to pick a main influence, it would be Gregg Allman.
Whats your biggest regret so far in your musical career?
Although I try not to live with regrets in any facet of my life, it would probably be that I haven’t tried to understand music theory any better than I have. It has been somewhat of a hindrance to me, but I’m still learning.
What’s next for Kyle Daniel?
I’m about to pack up and head to the UK and Europe for a tour! It’s going to be my first time with a full band in a lot of these cities, and I’m super excited!
If you could only drink one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Gatorade hahaha. I love Gatorade! Specifically Gatorade Zero.
How did you decide on your sound, was it a conscious decision or something that happened more naturally?
I have been playing music for a long time, so I feel like it was something that happened more naturally than a conscious effort. My influences are vast in the genres they span across, but I’m hopeful some of those show through within the record.
If you could pick one song from your back catalogue that people MUST listen to of yours, which one is it and why?
I would say, “What’s There To Say?” It feels like the one song that most people have connected to more than any other. After all, we all do what we do to relate to people.
You find yourself in a karaoke bar and are forced to choose a song not in your genre to cover, what song is it and why?
Oh man, I am NOT a karaoke bar fan, hahaha. However, if I was forced to sing a song, it would probably be “Hard To Handle.”

What line of lyrics out of all of your songs is your favorite, and why?
“You can’t rewind a moment when it’s gone.” What a simple, yet true statement. We often worry about what tomorrow brings or are constantly searching for the next “best” thing ahead and forget to live within the moment. I hope there are parts in this record that help people realize they should take a minute to stop and enjoy themselves.
If you could describe yourself to an alien from another planet in one sentence so they know what to listen to when they get to earth what would that sentence be?
A fun-seeking, loving, and creative person who hopes to connect with others. This sounds like some sort of dating ad, hahaha!
