The Beatles on my all-time favorite band Pink Floyd is right behind them.

There are two types of Pink Floyd fans, their fans of the wall and their fans of dark side of the moon.

Do I do love both albums that I am a dark side fan so I’d how to side with The Beatles on this one.

The Beatles, purely because I saw Paul McCartney live last year, pumping out three hours of hits at the age of 81 (ok so many songs were Wings or solo but Beatles were in there). Voice was not bad at all, and his band had more breaks than he did. Plus he managed to genuinely engage with an an enormous stadium crowd, which earns my vote every time 🙂

The Beatles are one of the most influential bands ever. They totally changed the music industry and pop culture. In the 1960s (back when I was a ‘wee lad’), The Beatles and the hippie movement were closely connected. Their music and influence shaped the counterculture of the time. Songs like “All You Need Is Love” and “Revolution” became anthems for peace and social change, resonating deeply with hippie values of love, peace, and anti-establishment sentiments.

The impact of music on society is closely tied to the stage of life of its listeners. The mindset of my generation in the 1960s allowed music like The Beatles to influence society. I believe there are many artists today who could potentially make a similar impact, but I’ll leave it up to the younger generations to decide who they are.

Close to a tossup on this one, with Pink Floyd taking the edge.

While I really liked Syd’s quirky contributions, I think they really started coming into their own at around Echoes. Dark Side is probably my favorite album, but I do love listening to Wish You Were Here. While The Wall was what first turned me on to them, it’s no longer my favorite, although Comfortably Numb is a killer tune.

Final Cut is probably the last album I really liked, and the title track is another key song in their catalog for me.

Tough call, I really appreciate the Beatles contributions. But even their experimental stuff felt pretty “safe” in comparison to Floyd’s early years and I have an affection for folks who push boundaries.

Apart from a few tracks – ‘Let It Be’, ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Elinor Rigby’ I was never too keen on the Beatles. The Stones beat them by several country miles. Pink Floyd was always more my scene, although for me they were past their best by the time they made the ‘Brick in the Wall’ album. I’ll always remember seeing them live at Earls Court on the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ tour in the early seventies. So it’s the Floyd for me, all the way. 🙂

It was incredible. I’d recently starting dating a guy, and he’d warned me in advance that he wouldn’t be able to see me on that evening because he and a friend had tickets for PF. I was at work late in the afternoon on the day and he phoned to say that his friend had got stuck in Warwick, where he was at university, and couldn’t make the gig. As my boyfriend had the tickets, he asked me to go with him. I had no time to go home and change, just had to go straight from work to Earl’s Court and meet him there. So it was unexpected as well as being incredible, one hell of a great evening. 🙂

As a more casual listener, I’m gonna have to go with the Beatles here. Magical Mystery Tour, Strawberry Fields Forever, and The Word are some favs that come to mind. Floyd has some good tracks as well (Animals was prob my favorite album), but there’s a darkness and twangyness to their music that never really resonated with me. Either way, a dilemma worth discussing!

ok since its a choice between these two tracks, then its really easy. It has to be ‘let It Be’ because it brings the soul, the Floyd tune is great, but it simply does not do that. Also of the three versions or ‘parts’ of Another Brick, on the album Pt 2 is the weakest (Pt 1 is a killer) as for the bands themselves, the Beatles have the edge because of sheer groundbreaking variety. Floyd will always have a place in my heart, specially the earlier more eccentric, often scary stuff ”Careful With That Axe , Eugene” ”See Emily Play” and ‘Wish You Were Here’ is in my top 200 albums of all time, but they still cannot compete with the Fab Fours body of work

Around 25 years ago I got to hear Jump mixed by a DJ in a queer dance club. I was stunned when I heard those keyboard notes! Would love to find that remix somehow today. You have fun taste in music. Sounds pretty much like mine! Europe’s Final Countdown was epic, the only Europe song I know🤣

WOW .. Now this is a tough one. I was raised on the Beatles and even at this age, I can still sing and dance to almost all of their songs. Pink Floyd, came later in life (High school years). While this was a tough one, I will still have to give my vote to The Beatles. Paul, George, John and Ringo, especially Paul and George are my favorite singers of all times.

There are definitely terrific musicians in that genre. I think my friend’s older brother had the Petra album. I was there for the electric guitar, but I didn’t identify as a Christian. I sometimes sing along to my favorite Amy Grant albums and songs. Saw her in concert when I was twelve years old. Nostalgia is important to me, as long as it carries feelings of comfort. The interview was great and some of the songs I actually enjoyed. Serotonin, On a Trip (which had a new age/alternative Beatles sound to it), “One of these days” was pretty good, I actually moved around to it. The band seemed to be grateful for being in the industry which showed lots of humility and that says a lot about them.

Pink Floyd all the way. Respect to the Beatles, and their meteoric rise is certainly fascinating, and I love many of their psychedelic songs, but just no. I can’t understand how songs like “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” had the girls panties in such a twist. I understand how most of Pink Floyd had my ear and intellect in a similar twist tho.

That’s a hard one. I am only 46 but both bands got me through the tough times. I listened to them on repeat from about 14-30 so I have to cast my vote for another reason and go with Floyd. I remember bonding with my dad one morning. We didn’t have a great relationship but one of their songs played on the radio. I wish I remember which song but I am pretty sure it was off their Dark Side of the Moon album. Anyway, he reached over to change the station because you know… kids and I stopped him because I liked it. He seemed a little taken aback by it but he went on to tell me all about them because they were his favorite band. Long story short, he showed me all his collection of Floyd albums and we bonded over music.

Secondly, I’m not a crazy fan of either. I’ve listened to a select few songs from both bands. I haven’t arrived upon any concrete conclusion as tow which is better– but I do know that of the two song choices you’ve posted, ‘Brick in the Wall’ has to be my pick. It holds relevant to today scenario, as to how education today is aimed at turning us into one and the same specimen, instead of what is should actually be doing– inspiring. Inspiring children and adults alike to step out of their comfort zones and change the world!

Also, I’d like to start listening to 90’s/80’s rock band music. Which band/album do you recommend I start with first?

Fun battle!  It’s difficult to choose a favorite band out of the two!  The first guitar solo in “Comfortably Numb” gives me goosebumps on top of goosebumps.  It is one of my favorite guitar solos out of millions

While I’ve never been a nerd for either band, I have attachments to both songs shared here.  “Another Brick in the Wall” always reminds me of fourth grade and our massive 1970s console stereo.  That wooden beast could put out some serious sound!  My best friend lived three doors down, and we walked to school together.  We would blast music before school as soon as my parents were well on their way to work.

She would bring over tennis rackets for our electric guitars and I supplied wooden spoons for microphones.  When I was around eighteen, I went to the “Pink Floyd Laser Show” here in Atlanta at the Fox Theater.  It was really cool and done entirely with green lasers.  I can still see the cash register image the lasers created during “Money.”

The Beatles connect me with my “Auntie M” who lives in Canada.  She was a huge Beatles fan, and is still the “cool” aunt. She had my paternal grandmother listening to the Beatles which is a fun fact for me.  I didn’t know that as a kid, and my grandmother died when I was ten years old.  Her name was Mary and she loved “Let it Be.”  Even though I’ve always loved “Let it Be,” finding that out about my grandmother in recent years gives it deeper meaning for me.  Thanks for the fun post, and for the nostalgia.

Hands down, Pink Floyd. I like ALL their albums, even the early Syd Barrett stuff. Since their break up, I’ve seen Roger Waters, but he’s kind of an ass. Going to his concert is like screaming in a closet for two hours. His show is visually stunning, the music is tight, but you leave hating the world. I also saw Nick Mason, who was wonderful. It was in a much smaller venue, and he played mostly pre-Dark Side songs. It was a lot of fun.

DC Talk were a good Christian band.

            Here endeth my views 😎

Beatles…I didn’t grow up with them real time but they have been my top band since 1975 when I was eight years old . If I had to set an order it would be Beatles, WHO, Kinks, Big Star, Replacements, Allman Brothers, and then the Stones.
Pink Floyd…I just started to listen to their 60s music with Barrett. I actually like that a little more.

Both The Beatles and Pink Floyd are legends in their own right! The Beatles revolutionized pop and rock, shaping modern music, while Pink Floyd took us on mind-bending journeys with their progressive sound. It’s hard to choose

Agree. Nowadays, I honestly cannot listen the same artist for more than a couple of hours. I need variety, somehow 😀

I love them both- in entirely different ways. Two flavors- It’s like you’re asking me to choose between sushi and chocolate cake, I can’t do it!

Awesome blog by the way, looking forward to seeing more from you 🙂 -A

George Harrison solos on Let it be vs Gilmore solo brick in the wall. 2 Great guitarist Loved listening to both bands. As a guitar player now 25 years. I appreciate the super talent they possessed. Rate both bands Great. But Beatles penned over 100 songs They get my vote

The Beatles, for sure. Let It Be, Across the Universe. I’m a big, big Lennon fan. But…Comfortably Numb is my jam. I discovered it when I was in high school (95ish) and I didn’t know what it was about at the time, totally thought it was about something else, lol. Man, this is a hard one. I like them both, Beatles win out over number of songs I can jam to but Pink Floyd over more songs that get me in my feelings.

    That’s my non-answer answer.
