This double headliner concert was supposed to be 24 bands spread over 4 venues in Bristol called Misery Loves Company, but unfortunately got cut way back to only being 4 bands at one venue. This changed their second festival into more of a concert but we did receive half a refund back to accommodate the change.
RØRY, The HUNNA, As December Falls, and ALT BLK ERA, were the bands that were still in the running. 3 out of the 4 we got to see at Download earlier this year, and we will be seeing RØRY and As December Falls again in March 25!

We have never been to Bristol so we got there early to get some food after our 3 hour drive and explore the city, before heading over to SWX; An independent venue and nightclub S
in Bristol with a capacity of 1,800 where the concert was being held.
We weren’t waiting long before heading in, and instead of ticket scanning, one member of staff was ticking names off a list which we thought was a little bizarre, there only seemed to be 7 sheets of paper with names too, and we realised later that there were not many people attending the event at all! It was a little disappointing as all the bands were fantastic and deserved so much more!

We got a drink and headed towards the stage where we were only one row back from the barrier with plenty of space, while waiting for ALT BLK ERA to come on stage we found our queue mate from BLUDFEST and caught up with them, someone also came round handing out stickers promoting ALT BLK ERAs upcoming album release Rave Immortal.
ALT BLK ERA came on stage with one wearing black and one wearing white as their signature outfit colours, they also were dancing eerily while performing and it definitely added to the atmosphere their songs created. Nyrobi and Chaya, have quite a collection of genres with their music, and although they started off with witchy emo vibes, they moved into more new rock and got the crowd singing along for ‘Drummers Girlfriend’ and at that point you could tell the crowd were way more into it and enjoying their music.
As always, they put on a great performance with Nyrobi, the older sister of the pair, telling us more about the songs and her chronic illness, how they handled school during the pandemic and how they bond as sisters. They played two of our favourite songs ‘Straight to Heart’ and ‘I’m Normally Like This’ as well as a few songs from their new album. They definitely were a great opening band for the night and got the crowd hyped. We are excited to go see them again in January for the album launch at the Saltbox in Nottingham!

While waiting for As December Falls we made more new friends, the crowd was such a 180 from our previous concert, everyone was so friendly and chatty. We had only briefly heard of As December Falls, but they were definitely our stand out band of the night as they performed incredibly well, the singer was great to watch as she was dancing all around the stage, we are excited to see them again in March with RØRY and we have ordered their new album already!
Although we hadn’t heard of them before, it seemed a lot of the crowd were already fans, singing along to ‘I Don’t Feel Like Feeling Great’ and ‘Ride’, sounding similar to Paramore but a bit heavier, we understand why! A few mosh pits opened up during their set and they definitely got the place rocking, especially during their last song ‘Carousel’ where it felt like the whole crowd knew all the words!
While waiting for the HUNNA we made even more friends, St Jimmy caved and bought a signed copy of RØRY’s vinyl. While waiting we were discussing with our new friends that we were surprised that the HUNNA were up next as they are more popular than RØRY. But although The HUNNA have more listeners, they also have an album and have been around a while, where RØRY’s first album is yet to be released and she isn’t that far behind in monthly listeners!

The HUNNA are really good live and are another band with a wide selection of genres in their collection. They played their first ever song, which was the most pop esk song of the night, even the band didn’t think it’d match the vibe of the festival, they played a mix of songs in thier set list such as ‘I Don’t Like You..OK’ and ‘Shes’ Casual ‘. A lot of people were there for them and with the amount of mosh pits you could tell! They finished their set with St. Jimmy’s favourite song of theirs ‘Trash’ which was the song that got the crowd moving the most and the singer climbed into the crowd.
When their set finished a lot of people left the venue including the group in front of us at the barrier, so we got their spot for RØRY. Although we were right at the front we didn’t feel like we were squashed in, and looking behind us you could tell the venue was nowhere near capacity, although it was busier than when we had first arrived.
RØRY came on stage while performing ‘ANTI-REPRESSANT’ and dancing around with her wings on, and the crowd was going wild! In between songs RØRY shared stories of her struggles, getting the crowd to put their hands up if they have had similar experiences to show that they weren’t alone, as well as how she has moved on from her trauma and what she’s done with her life after getting sober.

RØRY performed incredibly well, and although most of her songs are very sad and about sensitive subjects, she did have her first ever mosh pit at a show, which she was ecstatic about. She also took this time to lift the mood a little with a story about how ADHD affects her life and that she’d completely forgotten to shave her pubes before the show, so she had to ask her husband to run to Tescos to grab a razor 15 minutes before she came on stage.
RØRY performed her new song ‘Sorry I’m Late’ for the first time which will be released tomorrow, on her 40th Birthday! It’s a more upbeat and a happier song in comparison to her other songs, but it will shoot to the top of our playlists for sure and we are excited for her album release (that’s hopefully soon!) RØRY finished her set with ‘UNCOMPLICATED’ and a huge thank you to everyone involved with the show even though it didn’t go as planned.
We really enjoyed the night and feel that it went too quickly, we watched 4 really great bands, most of which we will be seeing again in the not so distant future!
St Jimmy & Rex 🖤☠️
