Which is your favourite sub genre of Rock or Metal?

Mine is Thrash Metal. I love the speed and aggression that Thrash Metal has and it never fails to get me in the mood to headbang.

    I’m not exactly sure why these bands are regularly categorized as “metal”, but the neo-folk “metal” bands like Heilung and Wardruna are probably my current favorite subgenre of metal/rock. For more traditional metal, I lean more towards some of the 70s glam acts (some might consider them to be more straight rock).

      saw a bit of Heilung at Download Festival … they certainly put on a show!

        Indoors, it is more of an experience than a concert. I was blown away when I saw them, and I had some moderately high expectations beforehand. Even then, I was floored by the end of the show.

    I think I can only answer for at the moment , my favourite currently is probably metalcore. I LOVE the melodic nature of the metal side of it and the aggression and harsher vocals of the hard-core part.

    pop-punk , emo also get a special mention 👍🏻

      the entire team used the inbuilt wordpress AI in order to create our avatars purely because none of us are artists 👍🏻

      but yes each of us inputted what we wanted into the AI engine and after hours of tweaking prompts got what we was happy with 🙂

    ah yes, the right prompt(s). To think that at 73 I’m learning how to talk to an entity younger, faster, and smarter than I, well, it’s strange for sure. I use AI quite a bit, too. If you think about it, AI is teaching us how to communicate properly.

      I’d have never had put you at 73! So you’re clearly doing something right … yeah I think AI should be fully embraced it’s a tool to make us better , people shouldn’t be so afraid of it

        There’s still reason to be concerned. It can certainly be abused. But the more we know about it as a whole society, the less scary it will be, and we’ll be more guarded about it.

        You are probably correct. It is definitely not as accessible as straight thrash or death metal, which I also like.

    I had rather specific tastes in metal music. Didn’t like Metallica, but really liked Megadeth’s earlier work (Rust in Peace was my favorite), up to Cryptic Writings. I also liked System of a Down and fondly remember when Hypnotize / Mesmerize came out. Does Yngwie Malmsteen count? I liked some of his guitar playing early on.

    Depends on my mood. If I’m feeling animated, it’s Electronic Nu-Metal like Celldweller. If I’m just wanting to chill, it’s symphonic metal like TSO, Nightwish, etc.

    Not sure what they call him these days but I always worshipped at the altar of King Diamond. He was speed metal when I was in the scene. Annihilator was another big fave of mine, as was Iced Earth. I was all over the place, just not death metal. Never did like the distorted growling.

      I think King Diamond is considered Heavy Metal , Annihilator probably Thrash. Iced Earth i think into the realms of progressive metal 🙂 I really cool mix there !

    At the top of my list would be alternative/grunge, hard rock and classic rock. As for metal, I’m not as well versed as I should be in the types of metal but I like Metallica, Black Sabbath, even Rammstein and System of a Down (not sure if they’re metal though???)
