Introduction
South African band The Tazers join us today for a fun filled interview! They produce psych-rock with plenty of reverb on the guitar and crisp vocals. If you imagine a 70’s band with modern grounding then thats exactly what you get!
We had the pleasure of discovering The Tazers music on the Dingir Zu playlist. Don’t miss their weekly show – click the link below to listen back to previous shows.

Interview
What is the music scene like in South Africa?
There are so many cool acts, fresh new bands & amazing talent in South Africa so from that aspect the scene is great! We miss the likes of Oppikoppi (a massive festival, RIP) and when Daisies actually booked rock acts but there’s a lot on offer in SA. We love seeing new punk bands from Soweto absolutely kill it on stage and we love how multi faceted our scene can be. We just wish there were more venues to play.
What has been your favourite country to tour in?
Germany for the crowds and Italy for the food & friends.
Coming back round to SA , what band would you say locally has inspired you the most?
Good question, I’d say probably Mind Pool or Beast
If we were to widen the net to world wide , what band do you think you sound the most like that fans of would love your music?
It would be a mixed bag of Temples, Ty Segall and Arctic Monkeys
What inspired the band name? Is there something about Tasers that spoke to you?
We just wanted to make electrifying music so we kind of just stuck to that and called ourselves The Tazers.
Your last full length album “Plastic Kids” came out in 2019 , when can we expect a sequel?!
2025.
What is your personal favourites off that album?
Golden Girl, Hadeda, Borrowed Phrases
Self Control and In My Mind both came out in 2023 which of the two do you as a band prefer and why?
In My Mind as it just slaps live and gets everyone super hyped. We knew when we wrote it that it was probably always going to be on our setlist from then on.
So that last one might have been a tricky one , a fun one to break up the seriousness…. Beer or Spirits , and which ones are your favourites?
Beer hands down. We are not fussy, but some good beers in SA we enjoy are Black Label, Windhoek and Jack Black.
The artwork for your releases are sublime! Is that something a band member does or do you get a particular person to do these? Following on from that who comes up with the ideas for the art?
Depends on the artwork, but most of the time we’ll conceptualize the imagery together and pass it onto a designer to do.

I adore the reverb on your guitar sound , was that intentional from the beginning or did that develop as the band came into its own?
We have always had reverb-soaked guitars so it’s very much an intentional thing from the beginning. Jeth always turns the reverb up to 11 live haha.
We touched on “In My Mind” earlier , but would you mind going a little more into that song. So what is it about and what inspired the song?
It’s about the current political climate and how one processes the information they receive in their own way.
If you had to pick one song that you have done that screams THE TAZERS , which song would it be and why?
A Bomb & A Bill – as it’s got Tims vocals in the verses and Jeths in the chorus, with a classic Tazers guitar solo at the end to sum it up. In My Mind is probably more of the current direction we’re taking as a band though.
What is the best thing about performing live?
Definitely the fun factor. We absolutely love playing to an engaging crowd and it definitely adds way more energy into our set. We feed off the crowd so if they’re hyped then we’re super hyped.
Can you let us know a funny experience the band have had ?
We once played a show in Cape Town to a really packed venue called Evol. It was so hot that Werner got heat stroke and completely forgot how the intro to one of the songs started that Tim had to mime it out to him multiple times before he realised what to play. We still laugh about it to this day.
Do you have anything you want to let fans and hopefully new fans know that’s coming up for The Tazers?
We have a new album coming in 2025 & we’ll be announcing our biggest European Tour soon.
