Are there elements of another genre that you think can be added to rock/metal to create a different and unique sound?

I’ll go first. I think in some cases Rap can be added into the songs to create a different feeling to the song and sometimes be used alongside normal singing to break up a song into different perspectives or emotions.

An example of a song that I think this is used effectively in is “Popular Monster” by Falling in Reverse.

    not sure if it could be permanently compatible, rather both would have to sacrifice elements to achieve a harmony. i loved Cypress Hill’s Rock Superstar. It’s a profound composition for me. Mike

    I’m thinking rock too , although I actually prefer Ronnie’s earlier falling in reverse without the rap … my influence for this would actually Hyro The Hero , love their stuff !

      I’ll have to go back and listen to their earlier stuff. I’ve only really discovered them recently and heard this album 🤘🏻

    Tough question for the likes of me. But I’m going to have to go with…Sea shanties? If you’ve ever heard of “Alestorm”, they’re like Pirate Metal…a little cheesy, perhaps, but a couple decent songs. Keelhaul and Nancy’s Harbor Cafe were my favorites of them.

    I once listened to an instrumental metal band play live in a club, and the DJ hopped onto his decks and started adding scratches and samples over the top. It was fantastic!

    Not sure if this fits but I think exploring different instruments. When I lived in Germany I saw a rock band that added a bagpipe for a few songs and an accordion for others. Neither of which are my favorite instruments but when added with the gritty rock music, it worked.

    I agree with the rap, it reminds me of a song PD did with Jimmy Page that really worked well together so I wouldn’t mind hearing more of that.

    Jazz. I would guess that a lot of metal musicians have a jazz background anyway. My favorite band that incorporates some jazz music theory into their solos is Meshuggah. But no one has really attempted a true fusion as far as I have ever heard.

    An interesting sound, although I’m not detecting any rap – just as well, because it’s not something I enjoy. 😦

    Saw this question the other day. I enjoy twenty one pilots quite a lot. Their sound and the way they blend genres appeals to me. I don’t think it is necessarily the blending of the genres. I think it’s who makes the music.

      Thats true a blend by one artist may work while the blend of the same 2 genres/styles by another artist may not 🤘🏻
