Review
On my first listen to this track, I found myself wondering which song the intro reminded me so much of. Suddenly, it hit me. Plug In Baby by Muse. That’s quite the comparison and definitely piqued my interest. As the drums enter the fray, paired with the guitar, the song starts to have more depth. With intense distortion and an added melodic approach, the backdrop of the song becomes increasingly vivid with color.
The moment the vocals kick in, it’s clear this song will explore deeply personal themes. The lyrics are packed with experiences drawn from those themes. The singer’s tone reminds me of early Foo Fighters. The pacing is giving me Nirvana vibes. This combination ramps up the intrigue levels a notch or five.
The hi-hats and cymbals during the vocals don’t convince me. They are a bit of a distraction. I would have left them on the cutting board. On a more positive note, the bass is fantastic! It has a powerful thumping beat that really propels the song onward.
I’m really into the punky and grunge vibes throughout this track, and the guitar section around 3:40, is exquisite. Still, I feel like the song could be about a minute shorter. It still wouldn’t lose its impact. Additionally, the production could have made to make the vocals stand out more in places. That said, it doesn’t take away from the impressive storytelling that this band excels at!
With a few adjustments, I believe this could have easily achieved a higher score. Yet, it definitely marks a promising beginning for the band’s catalogue, and I’m excited to see what they do next!
6/10
