Lucky Honey: An Exclusive Interview on Their Journey

Introduction

What do you get if you combine alt-rock with 80s soaked synths? Lucky Honey that’s what! Forming on the back of the pandemic the band have gone strength to strength since. The band gave away 20 guitars to people and as a result grew a massive social media following even before recording any music…

Now that they are releasing tunes that is only increasing on a daily basis. Give the Canadian rockers a chance and listen to their tunes below and let us know what you thought to our interview in the comments section!

Interview

Which rock ‘n’ roll legends became infused with your instruments?

I’m not sure we can draw a parallel to any rock n’ roll legends specifically, but we’re really big fans of bands that are able to combine together to create an incredible live performance, so we’re always blown away by artists like Muse or Tame Impala. We probably don’t sound very similar, but that’s something that really impresses us and something we aspire to accomplish.

What’s the story about your latest single ‘Looking For Help’?

Looking For Help is a tune written during the pandemic when everyone was cooped up and dealing with everything in their own way. It’s hard to write a song about something like the pandemic without everyone trying to make it political, but the simple truth is that the song is about wanting to break free from the isolation.

What was it like selling out your debut performance?

What a great feeling! We had put so much work into the music and our live show that it felt like we had earned a great kick off party, so we were flying high that night.

Any plans to release new music in the near future?

We have a lot of songs we can’t wait to release!

Will there be an album?

This is the plan.

What was it like getting a massive social media follow before you even recorded any music?

No path is the same and I think for us, the boost we got on social media prior to releasing music was fuel for the journey. It energized us to push forward and try to make something special.

If you could share a stage with a band, who would it be?

Oh my… too many to name. I think two of us would sell our souls to open for Oasis! The other two are wrong.

Who came up with the ideas for the ‘One You Call’ music video?

I love editing videos together and trying to come up with inventive ways to make music fun to watch, so this was a combination of me trying things out and the band telling me if it was good or not.

Was your sound organic or did you really have to think about how you wanted your music to sound?

We had a sense of what we wanted to be but we definitely allowed the sound to build organically and for each member to bring about their particular style and feel.

What is more important… the synthesizers or the facial hair?

Haha I suppose that would be a draw. We couldn’t have a band without either.

What do you as a band think is the most important thing about performing live?

Make it a show! We hate dead air or empty space. We work hard to make sure everything connects and that our musical movements are seamless.

Playing live is an opportunity to expand on your songs in a way that bridges them together so that they’re more than separate tracks of an album. And it’s fun to figure out new ways to flow into songs or showcase some of the more subtle parts that don’t feature as prominently in the recordings.

If you could play a gig somewhere unconventional where would it be and why?

We’re getting quite a lot of Brazilian fans on our socials so it would be fun to perform there!

Where can people see you this year?

More shows to come in 2025 along with new music and we’re pumped!
