Cozzer’s Question 09/12/24

Which is your favourite song that is based around an ancient myth or story?

A favourite of mine is “Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis” by Trivium. Scylla and Charybdis is a Greek Myth about choosing the lesser of two evils.

So many songs that I like and they have a meaning and a story in essence but if I had to choose one, I’d go for “Sally Cinnamon” by The Stone Roses. It’s about a girl who he likes but she doesn’t reciprocate the feelings and she falls for another girl.

I like Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youth. Brings up existentialism and mental health. It’s somewhat alternative/rock. Non rock I like
cassiopeia by Sarah bareilles. I used to feel it about someone I had a crush on.

Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. It’s based on Viking folklore, and as I mentioned here not too long ago, the theme song to my all-girls’ underground (girls weren’t supposed to do that back then) ice hockey team, the Valkyries. 🙂

I’m going to have to agree with “Tales of Brave Ulysses.) I’m old. Plus it’s got that Ginger Baker thing going on. 🙂

I like Kaisarion by Ghost. Hypatia was a female scholar, mathematician, astronomer and a pagan in ancient Alexandria. Labeled a sorcerer, she was killed by a mob of Christians. The song is about her. I love the harmonies.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden hands down.

My bedroom has two outside walls. It’s windy here often. I told my landlord when I’m bed at night, my bedroom sounds like a creaking pirate ship. It reminds me of this song. 🙂

Plus, it’s all good … drums, vocals, guitars, bass … ambiance.

    Orestes – A perfect circle

related to the myth where Orestes is away and his mother clytemnesta kills his father agamemnon.

Lots to choose from, especially from the halls of classic rock. Just a few come to mind:
    Rush’s “Xanadu.”
    Led Zeppelin’s “Achilles Last Stand.”
Kansas’ “Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel”
