The Who. Stairway to Heaven is so overplayed, and I never cared for Plant’s squealing voice. The Who had nice harmonies and vocal trade-offs between Daltrey and Townsend. I listened to the Who far more often.

I’d have to say the Who myself . They were among the first rock bands I ever listened to so nostalgia is a factor here . Led Zeppelin is pretty good too .

Did you know??? A little fact I heard about the Who was that they wrecked/smashed/broke that much equipment and instruments in their early days gigging that they were earning less than what they had ruined in their gigs 😂 but it eventually came good for them I suppose

Difficult choice. Usually I’d go for Zeppelin, but ‘Stairway’ isn’t a favourite of mine (yeah, I know, I’m weird like that, don’t want to follow the pack) so I’ll go for The Who. 🙂

Ditto. I’ve never been a big fan of slow, lyrical, sentimental songs. I like a bit of ‘oomph’, a good strong beat and a raunchy sound. I’d love to have been a drummer, or failing that a saxophonist. I tried several other instruments but wasn’t any good at them, sadly. Hence I love to listen – me and millions like me! 🙂

More with the impossible questions! I wouldn’t choose either of the songs you mention here as my favorites from either band (no offense!), but both have been in my pantheon of great bands since, well, middle school (I’m 63, so…). When I first heard “Kashmir,” (probably my favorite, still) at age 12, I decided I wanted to be a drummer–it took me 50 years to actually start learning to do that, but if it weren’t for John Bonham I may never have. And there are no words for Keith Moon–I don’t even know where to start when I try to play a Who song (well, I could knock my drum kit over, but I don’t think I could replace it as easily as The Who could)! (As for a favorite song of theirs, it’s also really hard to choose, but as an American over the past few years, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” seems spot-on.)

The world would be a different, much less interesting place, without either band.

Consider yourself fortunate! The new AND old bosses aren’t QUITE the same, but both are useless and malignant. We’re in for a rough ride, and I’m afraid we’ve brought it on ourselves.

End political mini-rant… Music is much more interesting and worthwhile!

To play at home – mostly Led Zeppelin. To see live – The Who (I’ve seen them twice and both times they were fantastic). I bought Led Zep IV and Who’s Next back in the 1970’s. It’s testament to these two albums that I played them both during the last week, 50 years after buying them and prior to seeing this blog. If you want a good watch look out for Classic Albums – The story of the making of Who’s Next. You can find some of the Classic album series on YouTube or some streaming platforms

I like them both and especially those songs. Stairway to Heaven was the first “real” song I played on the piano much to my granny’s dismay but I’m gonna go with Behind Blue Eyes only b/c I have to choose. If we were having a beer I’d argue the good points of each until we both agreed that it’s an impossible choice so… 🙂

If this was a choice between the two bands, it would have been a tight run (for me), but Led Zeppelin would have come out ahead. However, I have NEVER liked Stairway to Heaven so, between the two songs, Behind Blue Eyes wins hands down. Again, for me.

Both are great, in their own right but hands down, The Who. As far as I know, they invented rock opera and they still hold the record for loudest concert on earth. They were the handle of the spear during The British Invasion of the US, The Beatles were the head of it; driving deep into the American subculture of the 1960’s.

It was almost broken but the venue had to shut down the concert because the ceiling started falling on the concert goers, a Motorhead concert in Cleveland. Too bad I found my answer is wrong in 2009 Kiss smashed The Who’s 126 db with a 136 db and a few other groups, hit 130 db Zeppelin, Nugent and AC/DC. One other group did a 139 db, sound check. And Deep Purple actually is in Guinness as the world record holder at 117 db.

I feel like The Who evolved over time, like the Beatles, in a way that LZ didn’t. But the main thing is that I’ve come to appreciate the story-telling in their albums. They aren’t just collections of great songs. They’re songs that fit together to transport you somewhere. Sometimes in an obvious way, sometimes more subtle. Listening to one makes me think, not just enjoy.

Led Zep had great songs from the beginning. When you listen to their Rock n Roll, you see how much power they have in their sound. And this goes on through their later albums, where they deliver great slow and fast-paced songs. Only in their last album, I think, In thru the Outdoor, their benchnark Led Zep sound weakens, and the old magic is gone. But, they are in many ways, the best rock band of all time!
