Everyone’s favourite Finnish rockers The Rasmus are back with a bang! They recently released new single “Creatures Of Chaos” via Better Noise Music & Playground music. Lauri Ylönen (Vocals) and Desmond Child wrote the song together. Having previously worked together on the bands albums “Black Roses” & “Rise”. Creatures of Chaos opens with a dark and intense atmosphere, featuring a menacing blend of guitar (Emilia Suhonen) and bass (Eero Heinonen) that I believe listeners will really enjoy! The drums (Aki Hakala) pack a punch throughout. It’s this collective effect of the instruments that creates a unique vibe for this track. It’s even more atmospheric than usual!
The initial vocals come across as somewhat artificial, likely due to the effects applied, but fortunately, this doesn’t last long. Personally, I really appreciate Lauri’s vocals; during the verses, they are full of attitude and defiance, leading into a more melodic chorus. While the verses are impressive, the chorus truly shines! I’ve only listened to this song a few times, but the chorus is already stuck in my mind!

We are contagious The future’s afraid of us
Creatures of chaos Love it or hate us
If you’re feeling dangerous That means you’re one of us.”
The transition to the chorus is unmistakable, as the instruments pick up a lively tempo that stands in contrast to the verses. This difference is quite effective. Interestingly, I never expected a metalcore breakdown in a Rasmus song, but after the second chorus, it’s there and it’s glorious! As someone who in large parts of my life felt they did not belong this really is like the anthem I always needed.
This song hits all the trademark The Rasmus parts with its signature blend of melodic and dark atmospheric tunes. Ending the song is a choir segment that feels as if it was captured from another realm, providing a perfect conclusion to the song! In my opinion this is the best song by The Rasmus in years!
