Introduction
Today we talk with German metalcore outfit Our Promise. We were lucky enough to catch them alongside Future Palace & Seven Blood in Manchester. They impressed us so much on the night with their combination of melodic and aggression. Check the bands socials out and take in the interview.
Interview
Fox Reviews Rock – I guess we should start with the usual question: Where did the band name come from?
Our Promise – We had an endless discussion to find a band name that is quite simple but still catchy. We held a vote with the best ideas, and in the end, Our Promise won.
Fox Reviews Rock – You released the excellent 5-track EP in 2021 called Unbreakable. What would you consider the most underrated song?
Our Promise – I think Where Do I Go is the most popular one, but still underrated within our whole catalogue!
Fox Reviews Rock – Since that EP came out, you have focused on releasing singles instead. Are there any plans for another EP soon, or maybe an album? If so, could you share any details?
Our Promise – We released every song of the EP as a single, so we never really changed our strategy. We’ll continue to release singles until we think it’s the right moment for an album. So, who knows!
Fox Reviews Rock – As there are six of you, could you go into detail about what each person does in the band? For what it’s worth, in Manchester, we were amazed to see so many people entering the stage at the same time!
Our Promise – Every person does a lot of different tasks within the band, but to keep it simple:
- Rafa & Dani are our main songwriters.
- Vik is responsible for visuals.
- Kevin handles everything related to tour management & organization.
- Pascal is our head of merchandising.
- Thiemo handles all publishing affairs.
But everyone is often involved in everything, like social media, music videos, etc.
Fox Reviews Rock – As a German band, I think it’s important to ask the questions that people really want to know… What is the best German food, and is Oktoberfest as good as everyone says?
Our Promise – As a band, we just have to say that the best food is pizza—it doesn’t matter if it isn’t German food! We think the Oktoberfest is way overrated and feels like a tourist scam. None of us has ever been there 😀
Fox Reviews Rock – On a more serious note, which German bands coming through would you say have what it takes to make it (other than yourselves!)? Are there any bands you’re close with as friends?
Our Promise – We would highly recommend Future Palace, Annisokay, Accvsed, and Avralize.
Fox Reviews Rock – Does having six of you involved in this journey sometimes cause problems? We imagine that so many opinions could cause tension at times.
Our Promise – Sure, sometimes it’s complicated to handle six different opinions at once, but overall, we think it’s one of our biggest strengths. It’s awesome to have six people on stage to interact with the crowd, and of course, sharing the workload among six people helps a lot.
Fox Reviews Rock – If you could play any festival in the world, which one would it be and why?
Our Promise – As a German band we would love to play at Rock am Ring / Rock im Park. But we’d also like to play at Hellfest, Download and Reading/Leeds, there are so many great videos of bands we’ve been watching since we were kids.
Fox Reviews Rock – Would you be able to break down the song Panic Waves for us? What inspired the song?
Our Promise – We want to leave any interpretation up to the fans.
Fox Reviews Rock – As a metalcore band, what do you think attracts you to both the genre and producing this style of music?
Our Promise – It’s just the most fun kind of music to listen to, write, and play! Especially playing breakdowns and seeing the audience go nuts is what we love! Also, it’s the best community for sure!
Fox Reviews Rock – If we were going to a show in Germany, where would you suggest as the best place?
Our Promise – As Stuttgart and Munich could be considered our hometowns, I’d suggest going there.
Fox Reviews Rock – What show have you played so far that really blew you away in terms of crowd interaction?
Our Promise – Our first show in Paris was complete madness. We loved it!
Fox Reviews Rock – If you could change anything about your journey as a band so far, what would it be?
Our Promise – Nothing at all. We feel like everything is going well, and we wouldn’t want to change anything.
Fox Reviews Rock – Finally, do you have anything you want to let fans know?
Our Promise – Our first headliner tour is coming up, and we are very happy that we’ll get to meet so many fans and see many familiar faces again. We have some great plans for the next few years and can’t wait to share them with everyone.
