Whatever the year is, I wasn’t born yet…

Sometimes I have oddly specific memories. Some time ago I had a Kinks song for my Song of the Day, and there was a special thumbnail on YouTube for the band’s 60th anniversary, so it’s definitely more than 60 years ago. And the Beatles’ Please Please Me album was their first in the UK, I believe (the releases were different in the US, I remember talking about this with my mom who was a huge Beatles fan as a teen and she didn’t know of the existence of this album), so that Beatles song which I haven’t heard before must be from early in their career… I think the Beatles formed in 1962, but you didn’t mention them as a band formed in that year, so maybe the first album came a little later… I’ll make 1963 my official guess.

If I’m remembering my Beatles history correctly, I think the year you’re looking for is 1963.

Yup I’m actually old enough to remember the news footage of the monk burning. And I was interested enough around that time in The Kinks and Yardbirds.
        So, I guess….

1966? I was barely cognizant of my surroundings back then!

’63?! I was even LESS cognizant then! I think the first song I ever really noticed other than nursery rhymes was Petula Clark’s “Downtown,” and that came out in 1965. Love the Yardbirds!

Wow I was only 4 then but those songs remind me more of late 60s when I listened to my older brothers’ records. So I was gonna say 1966. Off by 3.

There’s something quietly haunting in how Sandro describes emotional bankruptcy by 30—like a lyric we’ve all half-lived. I teach high school art, and I write letters to my kids about identity, heartbreak, and the quiet grace of starting again.

Red feels less like a debut and more like a mirror—an emotional overture for those of us re-learning how to feel instead of perform. Your review helped it resonate even more.

I explore these themes—music, meaning, the long road back to self—at Forming 2.0, if you’re ever in the mood to trade notes. Either way, thank you for reminding us that music can still name what we’re afraid to say.

Glad to be walking part of this road with you,
    —Dean

Thanks for your comment Dean 🙂

Alas this was not a review but Sandro talking about the song in his own words , which I feel is really important and why we do this segment on our site.

We will however be reviewing something of Sandro’s hopefully later in the year.

I am also in complete agreement about how he describes emotional bankruptcy , its chilling.
