Introduction
You might remember the name Simbulis, there is good reason for that. We have not only interviewed them before, reviewed their debut show. But we also gave them an award at the first Fox Reviews Rock Awards!
Today the Nu-Metal band from Derby join us for a quick chat about both the addition of a bass player. As well as their upcoming EP “Everything Is In It’s Rightful Place, You Are Meant To Be Here”.
Interview
So, Henri, welcome to Simbulis. Here at Fox Reviews Rock we are staunch fans of the band! Very much looking forward to hear how you enhance the sound. We want to know what you bring to the table, how will you change the sound that is Simbulis?
Henri (Bass) – Yo. I have a lifetime of experience being in bands and playing live shows all over the country. I’ll bring the same dedication as Anoki, George and Rob to get this band where it needs to be.
As for changing the sound of Simbulis, I wouldn’t really want to change anything in that sense, you’ll just see a lot more energy in live performances. In the short time I’ve been with the band, I feel we’ve gelled quite well already so it’s only going to get better
A question now for the existing members of the band (Rob, George & Anoki) how did you find Henri, and how did you know he was the right fit for the band?
George (Guitar) – Basically, we received a message from Henri, and after some back and forth, we met and talked with him for a few hours.
His first rehearsal he had 4/5 songs absolutely nailed and since then he’s just absolutely thrown himself into Simbulis, sourcing shows, networking, engaging positively in discussions of the future of the band, he is what we’ve been searching for, we all get on so well, it’s comfortable, it’s easy, he’s here to stay.
This line up is solid, we’re unstoppable now.
Why did the band feel like they needed a bassist to move forward?
Rob (Drums) – I think to be a band playing the sort of music that we do, having a bass player there with us is paramount. There’s just no hiding it.
We were already sounding big, but with Henri now in the mix the music is sounding huge and can’t wait for his debut show with us in August.

EP “Everything Is In Its Rightful Place, You Are Meant To Be Here” comes out later this year can you give us a little hint at where that EP name came from. And obviously when can people jam to it?!
Anoki (Vocals) – It’s coming out late July!
Yeah, it’s a long title, but I feel like we went through a lot to be able to get to the point where we are now, and to be able to create and (soon) release music of this calibre.
So many different roads could have been taken, opportunities down other walks of life, moments that happened that at the time seemed like the worst possible scenario, all to lead to here right now, and this project. And it just feels like the worries, the stress, the unknowing, and the doubts of making the band, and life, work all kind of were meant to happen.
I guess it’s like a mantra in a way, everything is in its rightful place, you’re meant to be here.
And it’s not just about us as a band having gone through a lot and getting to a point where it feels like it was all worth it, but also for the listener as well. Like, you’re meant to be here listening to it, in the moment and the place wherever you are.
Everything that has happened was meant to be, to serve what will be. And we’re all here right now, in the right place. I hope that kind of made sense!
Finally, will there be any new and enhanced Simbulis sound featuring Henri on the bass any time soon?
Henri (Bass) – I don’t want to give anything away for any future plans and projects we have. Time will tell.
But I guess I am excited to have my input when it come to writing and to think outside the box when it comes to new unique ideas.
