Interview
First of all , is the band named after throwing something , or suspending something between two objects! I’d love to know the meaning behind the bands name if there is one.
Vlad – We were sat in a pub garden, trying to come up with a name for a band that isnt taken yet, that isnt long or convoluted, and that looks good written down and thats what we landed on.
We have worked with a couple south coast UK bands recently, could you name a couple bands we should keep an eye on?
Vower, Projector, Carne.

Previously you have stuck to releasing singles. But you have just released an album “In Ways”. When did it come out?!
Album dropped on may 2nd!
Momentum, momentum, momentum. It’s something you do absolutely spot on! How do you ensure that a song has this?
I think we just write music that sounds good to us – we got pretty varied musical tastes, have spent our lives surrounded by music and musicians, and I think we got pretty demanding musical pallets – so if it sounds good to us we feel like it should probably sound good to other people too. Thankfully we are starting to find more and more of those people
What is your recording process like? Is it usually lyrics first then everything else around it? Or do you write some tune and come up with something that matches?
Lyrics have always come last on these songs.
I think all of these songs started with vague riff ideas that grew into full arrangements with time, effort, and care.
It would be really fun to flip the process and write to lyrics or poems that already exist and try to make a sonic word for them, I have only done that a few times in my life and its a real fun challenge and approach

Some of the artwork you use on spotify has a running theme , eg a woman in a river and a man offering out a hand. Was this always the plan and do these songs have a link?
It’s not a concept album so the artwork is not directly linked to the songs in that way but the cover does try and bring some of the individual elements from songs and create a shared plane of existence for them visually. Shout out to Dommy (LINK) for bringing our ideas to life in such an awesome way
Your latest song “Class a cherry” sounds great! Would you be able to break down a little what it is about? What inspired it?
This song was inspired by strippers, escorts and sex workers and the power dynamics that come with that profession. It’s told from the perspective of a woman weaponizing the male gaze that she must endure regardless, and advising others to use it for their own advantage.
What do the band like to do together outside of music?
Smoke a few beers together in a sunny pub garden
Who has the worst taste in music within the band , and how bad are we talking?
This question could really start a fight hahah.
I genuinely think we all have pretty varied but good tastes although country music loving gets me a lot of stick in the band…

If the band was an animal, what animal would it be? And why?
A rescue dog, cause we are a mutt of a band
We have noticed the band is fans of Mastodon… if you could pick any Mastodon song to cover which would it be and why? More importantly how would you change it up a little and make it your own?
Ahh man….this is hard!!!
I think playing the riffs from Seabeast or Blood and Thunder on stage with everything turned up to max and crowd loving it must feel like a million bucks… But I think maybe Oblivion or High Road would suit Slung more for an actual cover?
Don’t know how we would change it… If Katie and Ravi are down Ali and I there in a heartbeat for this one….
What is your least favourite thing about the music industry, and how would you change it?
Probably the same thing as in wider society – where our priorities for spending and investing lie, and how profits and surplus are split.
We need to stop prioritising tax cuts for richest people on the planet, and put that money into housing, healthcare, and art.
There is no need or sense in billionaires if people are struggling and starving at the same time
There is no need to pay artists pennies when streaming giants profit in the tens of millions
Finally if you could play a show anywhere in the world where would it be, and why?
Touring US and Japan is an absolute dream. If it had to be a single show than I would love Duna Jam or a Desert Session – outdoors, generator, sunset in the back, and pure riffs sounds like a dream.
