Discover Texoprint At The Orange Blossom Festival: Exclusive Interview

Introduction

They might have changed their band name but Texoprint are still producing that ice cold sound that packs a punch! The Netherlands based trio are playing at this years Orange Blossom Festival and have just released their 3rd EP.

With sharp riffs and a tendency to nit-pick over details their sound is incredible. This band are one to check out!

Interview

I think the logical place to start would be what sparked the band’s name change from “Kalaallit Nunaat”? Also where did the new name come from?

Our former name is the indigenous name for Greenland, we originally chose it because we love the way it sounds, very open and mysterious. However we started getting some complaints about our lack of actual association with Kalaallit Nunaat and it’s people which we understand given it’s history. Therefore we decided to name change our name to something closer to our own yard, naming ourselves after the factory where Redwin’s (our guitar player) dad used to work. Its a former textile factory near the German border.

You have just been announced on the lineup for the Orange Blossom Special Festival 2025! How excited are you about playing the festival?

We’re very excited, we weren’t originally familiar with the festival but once it was pitched to us as a German ‘Misty Fields” festival we were sold. That being one of our all time favorites. This will be our first proper German festival so we’re all very happy for it to be a cool and special one like Orange Blossom.

Keeping on the OBS festival topic, we are going to be in attendance. What should be expect from a Texoprint performance?

Lots of energy, big walls of sound, shouty vocals blended with some more shoegazy atmospheric vocals and maybe some awkward jokes in between?

If we bump into you around and about at OBS Festival, what secret code word should we use so that you know it’s us?

Keal (pronounced kinda like the English kill), it’s eastern Dutch slang for “guy”, our guitar player got us on that word because he’s from there.

You recently released EP “Mumble”, I would love to know if you had to pick 1 song from the EP that is your own personal favourite, which one would it be and why?

Gosh, I would say Mumble itself. It’s the closing track for our shows (spoiler alert) and with good reason. It is our most extreme song and the production (by Daan Duurland) ended up sounding very loud and gritty. We love it.

Our own personal favourite track of yours is a bit of a deep dive into your 2020 EP “Television” and that is “Nothing”. Would you mind breaking down the inspiration behind that song for us.

Oh gosh, it’s been a few years since we wrote that, maybe like 2019? The EP’s theme is the loss of relevance of television in a more segmented information landscape. Musically though, at this point we we’re very inspired by the likes of A Place to Bury Strangers and Metz.

If you had to give a reason for the success you have had as a band so far what would that reason be?

Stunning good looks, and maybe a good live experience.

A slightly silly one to break up the music talk! If the band was turned into an animal by a witch, what animal would it be and why?

A walrus, loud and cool on the surface, but in the end it’s still a bit of goofball.

When creating your music do you focus on the lyrics or the tune first?

For sure the music itself comes first. We create everything as a trio, no exceptions. It really takes all three of us to get to the Texoprint end product. If I made something myself or just with Jasper or Redwin it would stick out like a sore thumb. Lyrics often develop slowly. Often improvised even in live situations (speaking for myself here) until they take a more stable form while recording.

We obviously know you’re from The Netherlands, would you be able to give us the heads up on some bands locally that you think rock?

Our friends from SØWT  just released a new record. Definitely should be on everyone’s radar. We’re also fans of Thrilled and Loveth Besamoh.

We had a listen to your self-titled EP from 2022 and were a bit confused, what happened to Pink Bag, Pt1? In all seriousness though the riff in “Pink Bag pt 2” is addictive! How long does it normally take to come up with a killer riff for your songs?

During that time we had a bit of mantra that a song should be finished in one session in order to keep the ideas simple. We enjoyed that approach but have since let that go. So truthfully probably about 3 hours of writing for the entire song to form. As for pt.1 , it was something we played probably around 2021 but dropped because the Jasper and Redwin didn’t like it anymore. I actually kinda liked the song but I guess people will never hear it!

So, returning to the OBS Festival they have loads of activities other than music to enjoy. E.g. a swimming activity and upcycling crafts etc. We want to know though what hobbies do the band members have outside of music?

Redwin likes board games, reading fantasy novels and enjoys a good beer. Jasper loves working on guitars and basses, setups and mods, that sort of stuff (he’s for hire!) also some gaming. He’s a bit of a euro-truck simulator aficionado. As for myself I really enjoy lifting weights, reading and watching American Football (Go Bengals, Who Dey!)

Finally, “Push It Down” mentions that you should get a job because your friends want you to… I want to know what jobs did the band have (Or still have) prior to forming the band and what were those jobs like?

Redwin works at music venue DB’s in Utrecht where he’s mostly a handyman. He’s also branching out into more construction stuff. Jasper works in a coffeeshop (the Dutch kind) and I teach drums and guitar.
